Lately I have been seeing “unknown.ignore” files in my SABnzbd completed download folder after a file has been successfully downloaded, and because of this the file is not being moved into it’s final folder with proper metadata. Any ideas?
I use SABnzbd and have a folder on my NAS called K:\SABnzbd\Complete, which a tv and movies folder.Typically, when a show is downloading via Sonarr it will will be my “in progress” folder (K:\SABnzbd\In Progress). Once it’s down downloading it is temporarily in K:\SABnzbd\Complete then via post-processing it gets moved to K:\TV Shows\Watching\Name of Show. Everything is happening except the show is not getting moved to the K:\TV Shows\Watching\Name of Show folder. It’s just staying in the K:\SABnzbd\Complete folder with the unknown.ignore file.
Debug Logs below. Not sure why this error came up all of a sudden with the path existing for a while now with no issues before. I recently changed my paths to UNC paths in Sonarr due to issues with running it as a service, but that has not created issues with other shows.

It is the old path, but my shows are all set to the UNC path now in Sonarr (this one is \Martorious\Media\TV Shows\Watching\Ash vs Evil Dead). Even though that is the UNC path, the files end up in the same place as it is all the same drive. Most shows work without issue. It’s just this one episode of this one show right now.
I am referring to the file in the folder where the episode ends up after it completes downloading (K:\SABnzbd\Complete\Ash vs Evil Dead - or \Martorious\Media\SABnzbd\Complete where Martorious is my NAS hard drive name). Because I use SABnzbd, I have all the files in K:\SABnzbd\In Progress while downloading then when finished they go to K:\SABnzbd\Complete. In K:\SABnzbd\Complete\ is a folder for the file once downloaded, in this case K:\SABnzbd\Complete\Ash vs Evil Dead. In that folder is the episode’s .MKV file and now this file with the name of the episode and extension .unknown.ignore. In most other cases when an episode finishes downloading, it automatically gets moved from this K:\SABnzbd\Complete\ folder to the TV Show folder (K:\TV Shows\Watching\Ash vs Evil Dead). This is happening without issue for all other shows. The files are in the “in progress” folder then the “complete” folder, then they get moved to the K:\TV Shows\Watching\ folder. This only happens if there is no .unknown.ignore file though and I don’t know why this episode is getting this file.
K:\ a network drive? If so you’re going to have the same issue as before as Sonarr needs to be able to access the path where SAB is putting completed files. as the error describes it’s not able to access that path.
If that’s the case you really should utilize categories to stop Couch Potato from trying to process shows and Sonarr from trying to process other items.
I did search Google as well. I don’t know how that article you linked me to pertains to my situation though. I am not using CouchPotato to downloaded this TV Show, I am using Sonarr. Also, the file referenced in there is a .downloading.ignore file. Mine is an .unknown.ignore file.
Obviously, but it looks like Couch Potato is trying to process that download, hence the file being there. I linked it because that seems to be a cause of concern since it’s the title of your post and mentioned in the OP.
Based on limited information you provided the only issue I’m seeing is that Sonarr can’t even see the folder, likely because it’s on a mapped network drive, if that’s the case you need to tell SAB to put them on the UNC path so Sonarr can access them.
Without seeing current ((debug logs)) that indicate anything else the issue is because Sonarr can’t access it.
I appreciate you taking the time, but maybe someone else can chime in. If it happens again I will attach the debug logs here. I don’t understand why Sonarr can’t see the folder, and don’t even really know what that means. The only folders are the one it’s in while downloading (in progress), the one it goes to when done (complete) and the folder the completed file gets moved to to stay for watching (always has been there).
For this same show, the first three episodes have worked with this exact setup, and every other show is working with this exact setup, all after I changed the path for each show in Sonarr to the UNC path.
I tried setting the paths in SABnzbd to the UNC paths, but that doesn’t save. When I change it from K:\SABnzbd\Complete to \Martorious\Media\SABnzbd\Complete in the SAB settings, it automatically reverts back to K:\SABnzbd\Complete (same for In Progress). Doesn’t seem like SAB allows UNC Paths.
I will hope it doesn’t happen again and if it does will post debug logs.
Sonarr gets the location to import files from SABnzbd, the issue would the same issue that caused you to switch to using UNC paths in Sonarr for the series folder since Sonarr running as a service can’t access mapped network drives.
It shouldn’t have an issue with them, but alternatively you could not run Sonarr as a service and Sonarr should have no issues accessing the mapped network drive.
I am running Sonarr as a service. It used to cause me fits by saying my network drive could not be found in Sonarr so I removed the service and ran the nzbdrone.exe file at startup. I recently switched back to using it as a service and found by searching that the service can’t run under the Local Admin user and has to run under a specific user, which it is now. Almost everything is working flawlessly except one episode of one show, so hopefully it was a one-time issue.
My “From” folder in CouchPotato is K:\SABnzbd\Complete. This is where movies go when downloaded. They get sent “K:\Movies\To Watch.”
Not sure how this relates to Sonarr though. Each TV show I download through Sonarr goes into its own folder.
Is it maybe something to do with SABnzbd also using K:\SABnzbd\Complete in its settings? TV shows and movies both end up in K:\SABnzbd\Complete. I use categories in there though. Movies - K:\SABnzbd\Complete\movies and TV - K:\SABnzbd\Complete\tv
