Storing metadata for shows elsewhere

I tried to search for an answer, but I’m not sure I can word my question right.

I’m day one with NZBDrone, and I’ve figured most of it out myself but …

Is there any way to divorce the metadata from the show directories? For every video file, there are four more accompanying files in the folder.

Okay, so it’s anal … but I’d like to ONLY have videos in a show’s season folder - and have all the metadata stored elsewhere. I’m still interested in the show information - I just would rather it be elsewhere.

Is this currently possible? Am I the only one that is interested in doing this?

Thanks - this is looking to be a great product … Long time Sickbeard user here, too

No, not possible, why do you want/need it at all? XBMC/Plex/other media centers will all create it themselves and store in in their own data folders. Any application that uses the metadata drone creates will expect it sitting right beside the episode files.

Hi new Drone convert (was using SB).

I’d like to see this as well as it’s easier looking at a folder and seeing what’s missing ‘manually’. Perhaps, a subfolder under each season with episode metadata or a single xml for the folder ?

@Maxip that is not the purpose of metadata, if you’re not using it to link to the included providers (which require the files to be where they are), then disable it.

Metadata creation is entirely optional.

Just so I’m clear …

If I shut off all metadata sources, these files will no longer appear inside the show’s root/season folders?

May I ask what the purpose is of this metadata? Because as you point out, my Plex server handles all that - it seems redundant as I would assume (probably incorrectly) that most people are using some sort of 10’ UI to browse and playback the shows.

What would be lost turning off metadata? The in-NZBDrone UI view of said data?

Thanks

Nothing is lost, all that data is stored in drone’s own database.

Some people prefer drone to create it (I never understood why), others use it to run multiple XBMC instances with shared info/images.

Great! So I just have to shut off the metadata sources? Or is there a switch somewhere I missed?

Thanks for the prompt replies!

They’re on Settings -> Metadata - toggle the Enable switch to off. They’re also off by default.

Thank you kindly sir.
