Stop downloading as soon as an epsiode is downloaded

Hi,

WIth sonarr one can setup the quality profile with a cutoff following by the subsequent quality priority. I have mine setup to cutoff at SD, and in the quality priority I have it from top to bottom SD, web-480, web-720, 720. With TV shows I am not concerned about the quality but instead more concerned about downloading the first post. What I have noticed is that if 720 is available first, sonarr will down this, but later when SD is available, sonarr will perform an “upgrade” to SD since SD is my cutoff. My request is a “finish” option next to each quality like in couchpotato where I can explicitly set to stop downloading as soon as a specific quality, doesnt matter which one is downloaded. for example, if i get SD first, stop i dont need any more upgrades. If i get 720p first, great, stop and dont download anymore. This would be to facilitate any download not requiring any future download regardless of quality.

Thanks,

That could only happen if the download wasn’t imported and Sonarr is trying to fill in a missing episode. If Sonarr is able to import the files this would never happen because:

  1. HDTV 720p is above SDTV in the profile list
  2. HDTV 720p exceeds the cutoff of SDTV.

Wait. This part means you’re saying SD is a higher priority than those other qualities, and since SD is the cutoff everything below it is not past the cutoff.

If that should have been written as “from bottom to top” then what @markus101 said applies, which might be how you want things to be set up; you might also want that order (i.e. SD is your preferred version) but with the cutoff set to the item at the bottom of the list.

Basically: the cut off is not “at this quality or better quality” it’s “at this priority/position on the list or higher up the list”.

Yeah, I misread that, good catch @dagoob. In that case, you’re telling Sonarr to upgrade until SDTV is reached because it is the top of the wanted qualities, which is the opposite of the default setup.

Also make sure you have read this wiki page: https://github.com/Sonarr/Sonarr/wiki/Profiles

And the recent thread asking some questions about it with examples:

Hello,

Sorry if i caused any confusion, I did read the profiles wiki and that is what led me to set up the list the way I did:

Drag the qualities so that they are arranged with your most-desired quality at the top of the list, and your least-desired quality at the bottom of the list. Advanced settings must be shown to reorder the qualities.

Based on this, being that I am conserving space my desired quality is SD, but I usually delete shows after watching them anyway so I rather download whatever is available first whether it be SD or 720p.

Here is my order now based on your suggestions. This seems to contradict the wiki page because I am reading it as "most desired quality at the top, and the most desired is SD. But my caveat is download whatever is available first, even if it is 720p, but after 720p is downloaded i do not need to “upgrade” to SD.

I hope I cleared it up some more. I have tried to read the other forum posts too and have installed sonarr on a windows machine, then converted to running it in linux under omv, and now under a virtual machine but for some reason this setup of profiles and cutoffs just boggles my mind.

cutoff: SD

Qualities:
webdl-720
720p
sdtv

If you prefer SDTV the most, put it at the top, with the other qualities below, then set the cutoff to the lowest allowed quality.

You ordered the qualities the correct way, but selected the wrong cutoff and told Sonarr to grab releases until it reached SDTV, not grab whatever preferring SDTV, but stop after grabbing.
