Sonarr removing SABnzbd history?

Hello All,

I actually have this same question posted over on the SABnzbd forum, as I originally thought it was related to SAB. But further testing seems to indicate that it may in fact be related to Sonarr.

Here’s the link to that thread: https://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18585

What’s happening is that my HISTORY area in SABnzbd is removing history entries after a successful download. These would be all TV show downloads initiated by Sonarr.

As I mentioned on the SAB thread, it seems that the download completes just fine. I can watch the progress as it’s downloading on the SABnzbd web interface, and I can even then see the download drop down into the HISTORY area.

It seems now that when Sonarr runs its own post-processing scan, and then moves the files to its final destination – it’s also somehow triggering the history to be wiped out in SABnzbd.

I’ve been using this same SAB/Sonarr setup for quite a long time, and this is issue has never presented itself before the last few days. Could a recent Sonarr update possibly be causing it?

Any suggestions?

Sonarr will remove them if you enabled the option to remove them (disabled by default).

I’m having the same problem. It just started a couple of days ago. I haven’t changed any settings in Sonarr but SAB is now not showing downloads initiated by Sonarr. I’ve looked on the Download Client page but the only setting I see that is remotely close is for failed downloads. What am I missing?

SAB isn’t showing them? That sounds like a different problem, this thread is about them being removed from history.

Hi Markus,

I do see the setting to remove Failed downloads from download client history – but I don’t see any similar setting for successful downloads.

Sonarr is removing successful downloads from the download client history currently.

Its hidden because you have Completed Download Handling disable. In which case Sonarr isn’t going to remove it because it would never check SAB to import it.

How are imports being done?

I read the question was concerned with the SAB history. If that’s not the case, my bad. I may have found the problem. The enable complete download handling was turned off, which hid the remove downloaded setting. Just like the pic you just got. I’ve changed that so now I guess I’ll see if that solves the problem.

I see our messages overlapped. The only other comment is that even though the enable download handling was turned off, the files were still ending up in my TV directory. That I don’t understand.

Was remove set to yes, but completed download handling was off? That shouldn’t actually matter, but maybe there is something.

Drone Factory maybe? Or something else is sorting them?

Everything is set to the Process Folder, including the Drone Factory. I guess I’ll see how things work tonight before I comment further.

You’ll want to change the folder that Drone Factory points to, otherwise Completed Download Handling won’t be used. Drone Factory is the legacy import mechanism and should be used for importing files from a manual source, external drive or something like that.

Markus,

I know that “Completed Download Handling” was a newly added to Sonarr I believe last year. I had been using the Drone Factory method prior to this addition to the program, and it worked just fine so I never made the switch.

It’s been awhile since I’ve even looked into using Completed Download Handling vs. Drone Factory, but I think the Drone Factory method just scans your completed downloads folder once per minute, and moves the completed files to the final storage destination.

This functionality still works fine, it’s just the HISTORY disappearance which is the new development.

I would make the switch over to use “Completed Download Handling” rather than Drone Factory, but I was under the “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” mentality regarding that

Yeah, its newer, but more reliable. But in your case, since CDH isn’t used Sonarr couldn’t possibly remove it from SAB (there is no API interaction that would do it).

Whatever this issue is would cause issues with CDH since it relies on SAB’s history. Once its sorted out I recommend setting up CDH.

Thanks again for the reply Markus, your response times are amazing!

Ok, so I definitely want to make the switch over to CDH and see if that solves the problem. Additionally, I would just like to know I’m using the better handling method as well.

I think my reluctance to move over to CDH was somewhat out of confusion as to how it will actually work, in comparison to the Drone Factory method. According to http://goo.gl/oIM35z :

Waits for files to be extracted by your download client and post-processing script

But with making the switch from SickBeard to Sonarr years ago, I stopped using Post Processing scripts because they were no longer needed to move episodes into their correct folder locations.

Also according to the page “Gets the file path to the download directly via the api, so the user doesn’t have to configure it in Sonarr

But if I’m not defining the full final destination path in each TV Series settings, how will Sonarr know where to place the completed/extracted files?

Some people do run PP scripts which would get messed up when Drone Factory stepped in and moved the file and in some cases (mostly non-Windows) incomplete files would be moved because the file was still being extracted, it wasn’t super common, but happened on slower systems.

The series path is still defined in Sonarr, but not the path where SAB unpacks to (that part is grabbed from SAB’s API automatically).

Just an update here. I enabled CDH, then toggled the “Remove” option to NO, so that Sonarr doesn’t remove the imported downloads from download client history.

This was the only change I made, I did not change the Drone Factory directory.

I then manually triggered a download to start from Sonarr on an old episode which was never downloaded. It downloaded correctly, and was then moved to the correct folder corresponding to the TV series. And now the History IS still showing in SABnzbd.

If I read your above messages correctly, by leaving the Drone Factory directory unchanged… CDH isn’t even being used. But making these 2 settings changes did seem to solve the missing History at the very least.

Here’s a screenshot showing current settings: http://i.imgur.com/chRvx9R.png

I set my drone factory to a different folder than the completed in my nzbget/sab. It HAS to be different on it’ll get confused.

I use CDH 99% of the time. The other 1% is for manually downloaded episodes directly from the indexer.

Wait… was “Remove” set to “YES” before?

Markus - yes, the Remove setting was set to YES before making the change. However I never had CDH enabled before, so I didn’t have access to this setting until just making this change to enable CDH.

And I did not muck with those settings previously, this would have been the first time I ever touched the Remove setting.
