I finished installing plex. My first problem was finding where to put the Services.bundle file as the directions were a bit strange. I finally put the file at "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins$"
Which seemed right as the files in plex media server seemed to be getting updated. I also tried to change the permissions on that file with "sudo chown plex:plex Services.bundle (with -R too) the permissions remained owner (blank), group plex. I am mentioning this as I suspect this may be where my problem is.
My problem is pretty simple - sonar has stopped working and the calendar is no longer updating itself. My suspicion is that I should remove plex and get back where it was working (just not getting any torrents).
Not sure what you’re referring to here, Sonarr can talk to Plex without adding a bundle. You set that up on the Connections settings page in Sonarr.
How is it not updating? Your Sonarr logs have some permissions errors and a lot of failing to import things:
16-11-25 05:57:36.7|Error|DownloadedEpisodesImportService|Import failed, path does not exist or is not accessible by Sonarr: /home/greg/video/complete/Dancing With the Stars Us/Season 23
The permissions thing is a mystery to me. If I knew what it was trying to do, and the necessary permissions I would fix it but I have no idea what its looking for. (my search tells me I have 1000 of those).
I am not sure about the import things. As far as I can tell many of the problems is that there is simply nothing to get which I understand. However, when it finds something then it tries to do something with it but there is a permission problem. I can fix that if I know what it wants.
As far as plex is concerned I can get rid of the file Services.bundle. I put that in because I was told to by the installation directions (in get hub I think). Anyway, I don’t see sonarr even talking to plex so, I guess, that is either setup wrong or was installed wrong?
The thing is that none of these errors were occuring before I installed plex. I installed plex because it seemed easier than trying to sign up with torrent links which may, or may not, work. The only one I think is working for me is rargb and so I thought I would make a run at plex. Now things seem to be well and truly messed up.
Should I stop, and remove plex?
As far as I can tell plex and sonarr are not talking to one another at all.
If somebody could just point me in a direction I would appreciate it.
Not from anything for Sonarr unless you are referring to the Sonarr channel for Plex, which isn’t created or supported by us.
Plex doesn’t provide content, it is used to play your content on different devices.
That would explain where Sonarr is getting things that it’s unable to import.
You’d be best not worrying about Plex at all until you have Sonarr importing files properly, which looks permissions related (Sonarr can’t see the files downloaded by your torrent client).
I continue to have problems with my file permissions. I am sure I am setup wrong but have no clue. My problem is that there is a LOT of direction on the net, and even in forums. The problem is that the programs seem to be changing and so one never knows just what directions are good and what are bad.
anyway, I have included below how I have setup stuff, along with a snippet of error (they all seem to be the same)
If anybody can help I would really appreciate it.
Thank you…

I use Fedora but I have permissions set totally different. I saw you used sudo so I’m guessing you are using some flavor of Linux. I have the folder for NZBDrone or Sonarr in my /opt folder and the permissions for that folder are john:users. I am john and the group is users. This lets others read the folder. You should be part of the user group, not the group itself. John can create and delete files, users can access files.
I haven’t been using Sonarr long, a few months only, but everything works fine. I don’t use torrents but instead use usenet. TV shows are downloaded, processed by SABnzbd, and placed in a folder for Plex to read.
Give this a try with the persmissions as I have shown above and see if it works for you. I also have a user named sonarr who is also a member of the users group.
Here is what I have done.
Removed and reinstalled mono
Reinstalled sonarr
Restarted. I am getting errors like:
DownloadedEpisodesImportServiceImport
failed, path does not exist or is not accessible by Sonarr:
/home/greg/video/complete/Seth.Meyers.2016.11.24.Josh.Meyers.720p.WEB.x264-HEAT8:56amDownloadedEpisodesImportServiceImport
failed, path does not exist or is not accessible by Sonarr:
/home/greg/video/complete/The.Daily.Show.2016.11.17.George.Packer.1080p.WEB.x264-ROFL
The interesting thing is that I already have the shows in question so I have no idea why the program is even trying to download the same shows.
Your thought on folder ownership is interesting. Right now I am both owner and group. I have no problem to changing the group to ‘users’ but to give them only access to the files might be wrong as the errors I get involve writing new files (importing them and without create permissions there might be a bit of a problem there). I am wondering if the owner, or group might be better if ‘Sonarr’ was the owner or group. I have no idea who is doing what which makes any decision kinda iffy.
It would be really helpful if somebody could give specific instructions for setting up permissions and owner/group/others. Lacking that how about telling us, for instance, just what sonarr calls itself when its dealing with folders and files (which would also tell us what that program needs the folders and files to look like). I really don’t want to start parsing somebody else’s program to get this kind of information (a little knowledge can be dangerous )
I have also seen errors involving nzbget from the nzbtomedia script. I find this strange in that I don’t use nzbget but sabnzbd. Sabnzbd calls nzbtomedia for the movie category. This category would be coming from couch potato and not sonarr. Perhaps the sabnzbd movie category should use different script?
In all cases, however, it seems that downloads are happening and they are being sent to where they belong and the names are correct.
My tendencies are to just let everything be but I continue to be grateful for any suggestions.
I think what you are telling me is that you have created a group of users by using the adduser command? Is ‘users’ an official term for such a group or do you assign each of your users to that group using?
Users is one of the groups by default and when I add a user that group is also assigned by default. No action on my end. Gnome has an app that will show you all about users and groups and who has what and you can make changes. Also look for a file named groups in the etc folder. You can edit it via root and add users to groups
What distro are you using if you don’t mind telling me
I am currently using ubuntu 16.04 Thanks for the reply
Now, if I can figure out what these programs call themselves when they are doing stuff I can have at it. I think sonarr is ‘Sonarr’, I have no idea about couch potato and sabnzbd.
After I asked the question I went out and searched and read some about this. I will read a bit more as I can think of uses for this one. I actually have something like 5 machines. My wife has 2, one is a windows 10 box and the other is an ubuntu mate little netbook for travel. I have 3 for other stuff and they are all ubuntu.
I am retired and mess with this stuff. People give me computers and I get them running and give them away. (keeps me out of the bars )
Funny, I’m retired also. Got to old to enjoy working on cars I never had much luck with Ubuntu but a friend of mine swears by it. He’s an IT guy and works with all OS’s. I have box dedicated to Plex. It runs on Fedora. On it I have sabnzbd, sonar and couchpotato along side Plex. Started this “project” in Jan 2015 when I got tired of DirecTV. These provide me with all of my TV and movies
Have my desktop and a laptop also on Fedora for daily use and a couple of more to play with along with a couple of pi to send TV shows to TV
Hope I helped a little. Feel free to ask more. Always glad to help when I can
I have found that the various distros are, basically, the same and all that seems to change is the interface. I have tried several and it seems to make no difference. I like ubuntu because its popular so there is a bunch of help available. Even under ubuntu, however, there are variations, like mate (his was for my wife who is used to windows and mate gets her a little closer ) Basically, I am cheap. When I started with ubuntu I had a paid version so I moved to Ubuntu and just stayed there.
