Sonarr/Newsbin file move - keeping subdirectory

I’m just trying to migrate from Sickbeard to Sonarr. Before now, Sickbeard would simply grab the nzb, Newsbin would download the rars and unrar them to my main tv watching directory. Now that I’ve installed Sonarr and have Newsbin integrated with it, each file is in its own subdirectory, which is annoying.

Now that Sonarr is installed, when I’m downloading a tv show, the rar files land in the same directory as before, but rather than unraring in my tv watching directory, they unrar in the download directory in a subdirectory named after the show. So let’s say I’m downloading season 4 episode 12 of “The Sample Show”. Once Newsbin has finished with it, in my download directory will be:
The Sample Show\The.Sample.Show.S04E12.AAC2.0.H.264-monkee.mkv
This directory with the enclosed show is moved to my tv watching directory. So rather than a list of shows to watch, I’ve got a list of directories.

I’ve set up renaming in Sonarr’s config, but that just renames the .mkv file, but leaves it in the subdirectory.

How do I get it so that only the video file winds up in my tv watching directory?

Sonarr doesn’t support a single directory to “sort” all completed downloads in, to the best of my knowledge.

So if you have fifty shows that you watch, when it’s time to watch tv, you have to wander through all fifty directories looking to see what downloaded last night?

Many people use Plex or Kodi, which also keeps track of which episodes have been watched. You could also use Sonarr’s UI (History or Calendar) to track what has been recently imported.

I assume these are programs run on the computer, right? Seems like a lot of additional complexity. I run Media Portal from the comfort of my couch on the widescreen. It’s looking like the best thing would be for me to NOT have Sonarr integrated with Newsbin. Just let Sonarr get the nzb file and let Newsbin do the rest. I’ll lose the capability of redoing incomplete shows, but that’s such a rarity for me.

Sonarr will also treat all episodes as missing if it doesn’t import.

Does Media Portal only let you access your media via a list of files? I only ever used it for video capture (10 years ago). Plex Media Server is installed on your computer (same as Sonarr is) and then you can access the media on almost any device (Web browser, application running on your HTPC, tablet, phone, Smart TV, etc) and the watched status is synced, you can even start watching on your TV and then switch to your phone to finish it. Kodi is typically installed on the HTPC and used from your couch.

Well, you can have a directory. You can configure several locations if you want. I have a simple directory hierarchy. I separate my current tv shows into a drama and comedy directory, plus seperate directories for shows that only my wife or I watch.
