Has any attempt been made to port Sonarr (server) to Android or Android TV? I’m sure it would be a large and bizarre undertaking
No, that’s not something we plan to do.
I’m not sure what the point of that would be? Sonarr really needs to be running 24/7. But all it’s really doing is grabbing content. It’s not a Media Server. It works in connection with PLEX or Emby or other programs that are a Media Server, or a Media Player. Watching content with something as simple as VLC. It makes no sense to run on Android or Android TV. Just like it makes no sense to run on iOS or the AppleTV.
I have run Sonarr on my Windows PC, and now I’m running it on my ReadyNAS 516 which I really like is makes sense. That’s also my media server with PLEX running on it. I’m also playing around with Emby a little and there’s a few things I like about it, but only once in a while on my Windows Computer.
You’re not going to find Sickbeard or SickRage running on Android or iOS devices either. BUT, if you have a older PC you don’t use much anymore, that may make a great Linux server. You could then throw on Sonarr and Plex or whatever you want. That’s a pretty good low cost solution. Google has been a big help for me getting Sonarr working on my ReadyNAS which is running a form of Linux and my Linux experience is really pretty limited. You learn to figure things out. Sonarr is really great with what it does. Every once in a while I’ll throw a few bucks their way. Well worth it.
