Wife wants to watch through the entire series of Gilmore Girls one time, deleting as she goes.
We have about 20-30GB of free disk space for our media server that fluctuates with up and down ~15GB as we watch (and then delete) new shows - but no where near enough for me to add Gilmore Girls to Sonaar set to download all seasons.
With a “HD - All” profile selected, each season weighs in at about 30GB. So even selecting a single season alone will fill our media center’s disk up.
I would like to not have to babysit the show in Sonaar
::: end Hypothetical Situation :::
::: Feature Suggestion :::
It would be great to have a setting on a series that it should download starting at the oldest and only fetching N episodes max on disk.
When it sees that an episode has been deleted, it will grab the next in the series.
I am thinking that there could be a new option in the “Monitor” drop down that will set it to a default N episodes, but then when editing a Series settings you can set custom settings for each series.
Since Sonarr doesn’t search for episodes (it watches RSS feeds, see the ((FAQ)) for more info) this wouldn’t really work, coupled with lots of variables, complexity and likely a low number of users I don’t see this being something we’ll implement.
Thank you for your reply, I respect your answer / decision.
Just in a bit of defense of my suggestion if there is ever any future consideration…
1st) From a technical standpoint, if a Series was added with this proposed Monitor type, it would not be RSS based like the default setup, but would essentially run by automated “manual” searches. When first added it would look for the first 2-3 episodes in the series and download them and stop. Then upon each recognized “Episode file deleted” event logged, it would then perform a “manual” search for the next needed episode in the Series and again stop.
2nd) You predict low user adoption for this method, but the more I think about it, the more I would convert a good number of shows in my setup to this proposed Monitor Type. We have a number of shows that we get behind on - even so much that the next season has started and we are still on last season. We don’t archive/keep shows after watching (just delete them using Plex after viewing) - so there is no reason to have 15 episodes on hand for a show we are watching if I am fairly certain they can be available “on demand” at any time from my providers.
I understand I am stating my preferences and I might not be your average user.
Maybe this is an opportunity for me to explore the API / scripting capabilities of Sonarr.
