Season added as WEBDL 720p but shows up as HDTV 720p

Hi all,

recently I noticed that when I add a existing season as WEBDL 720p, sonarr imports it but in the season page, the episodes are stated as HDTV 720p instead. Is this some sort of bug?

Please advise, thanks.

If the file name didn’t contain WEBDL 720p it would fall back to the extension (mkv = HDTV 720p). Not a bug, there just isn’t a way to determine it without that info.

What does one of the file names in question look like?

I actually follow the format of: Arrow - S01E01 - Pilot.

I understand that there is a limitation that sonarr is unable to detect the file format. But if the season is imported with the format of WEBDL-720p (custom quality), then shouldn’t it use that quality for the files imported too?

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by imported with the format WEBDL-720p, but Sonarr doesn’t use the Profile to determine the file’s quality, that would cause issues when importing a series with SDTV episodes and a HD qualities in the profile. The profile defines what you want, not what you have.

Did I understand what you meant by importing with the specific quality properly?

What I meant was I added a “existing series” and I selected my custom profile of “WEBDL-720p”, so shouldn’t sonarr infer that I have set my files to a quality of WEBDL 720p?

No. A profile only tells Sonarr what quality you want, not what you already have.

Hmm I guess there should be an easier way to mass assign quality then. Since it does affect things like renaming. Don’t get me wrong, I think you’re doing a great job here and I truly thank you for your effort.

No, you’re right we definitely need an option to do so and have it on our Trello board: https://trello.com/c/75MOaJ92/397-manage-season-quality-and-delete

The easiest solution (assuming you’re coming from SB or a fork of it) is to set the quality in the file name, import into Sonarr then rename them back, we do recommend the quality in the file name in case you ever need to rebuild your database for some reason.
