Resolving a matching show alias on TVDB?

Sonarr version (exact version): 4.0.13.2932
Mono version (if Sonarr is not running on Windows): 6.12
OS: Ubuntu/Docker
Debug logs: n/a
Description of issue: Kamen Rider Gavv listed as an alias for Kamen Rider, preventing Sonarr from grabbing new episodes due to the Kamen Rider Gavv matches an alias for series with TVDB ID: 74096 error.

Is there a way to force Sonarr to only use x TVDB ID? Absolute Series Scanner has support for this using a {tvdb-x} slug within the folder name–is there something similar within Sonarr?

Thanks!

Kamen Rider Gavv is season 35 of Kamen Rider on TheTVDB. The duplicate series 仮面ライダーガヴ - TheTVDB.com should be removed from TheTVDB (and will be when they figure out it’s a duplicate).

Sonarr uses TheXEM to map Kamen Rider Gavv to the correct season of Kamen Rider: Kamen Rider | Mapping | Xem

They won’t though. They never do. There is a separate entry for every season as well. Its been that way for years with all of these hero shows. its so people can organize as one mega series OR as separate series using the TVDB ID. Its the same on Movie DB and a bunch of other database sites.
Kamen Rider Build
Kamen Rider Black
Kamen Rider Revice

Their existence doesn’t mean they should be there, unless you got confirmation from their support that they are not duplicates, but in that case I’d expect them to clean things up properly.

For Sonarr’s purposes don’t add the individual arcs and new shows, just add the original series.

Adding the original series creates more of an issue, since searching for Kamen Rider S35E01 through Sonarr doesn’t retrieve the proper episodes, as scenes release the show based on the entry into the Kamen Rider series (Kamen Rider Gavv - 01).

Changing the episode ordering to Anime/Absolute doesn’t help either, as it returns other entries in the Kamen Rider series.

So even adding the original series as per your recommendation wouldn’t help to solve the issue of it not automatically grabbing new releases, since it would either not have anything to grab if searching by Standard episode format, or it would possibly grab the wrong entry into the series using Anime/Absolute numbering.

Would there ever be support for a feature like what I mentioned in the original post, where we can specify which TVDB ID to use if there is a duplicate?

Even if there are bad results the aliases and XEM mappings should resolve that.

We do not have plans to change how aliases are applied or provide overrides, since XEM and our own aliases are able to handle most cases.

The XEM channel on Sonarr’s discord may be able to help clear up some things.
