Hello all. New to Sonarr from Sickbeard. Really liking it so far. Have a few questions but thought I would start with one. When I use the renaming function to rename existing shows that were named in SB, only the video and no files are renamed. Is there a setting I’m missing to rename the accompanying image files I.e. Folder.jpg. Thanks for any help.
Files that Sonarr understands to be metadata files, such as filename.nfo for episodes (Kodi metadata where filename matches the filename of the video file) are moved (basically anything that Sonarr can create will be moved as it will be properly tracked).
Folder.jpg wouldn’t be moved, but may be recreated if the season folders are changed.
What I’m getting at is the files already exist on my sever. They were named by Sickrage and have a different naming convention to Sonarr. When I rename the episode with Sonarr, only the video file is renamed. How do I get it to rename the nfo and all jpg files as well?
Depends, the example you gave was for a file that Sonarr wouldn’t rename, if Sonarr knows the file is a specific metadata file, episode thumb or nfo for Kodi Sonarr will rename it. After a series is imported or refreshed Sonarr will rescan those files and will rename them when the file is renamed.
Do you have a concrete example?
Also try renaming an episode or two with trace logging on to see the entire process.
From what you’re saying, if a file was not processed through Sonarr from the very beginning (search, find, download, rename, move), Sonarr will only rename the video file, not any additional ones (jpg, nfo). I have a series where previous season files have no quality in the filename (720p WEB-DL). When I modify the file and add a quality and then rename the file, only the video file is renamed. The nfo and jpg files keep their original names. I hope I’m explaining this ok.
It will rename them as long as its a file that Sonarr understands, but not all extra files are understood by Sonarr.
These are the file names:
The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.mkv
The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.nfo
The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.jpg
These were obtained using Sickrage and sabnzbd. I now switch to Sonarr and import all my files. Since there is no quality, I modify the quality to 720 web-dl and rename the files. What I get is:
The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.720p WEB-DL.mkv
The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.nfo
The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.jpg
I just want all files named the same. Thanks
The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.nfo
should move without issue, The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again.jpg
may not depending on which metadata source its from, looking at XBMC’s metadata it would expect it to be named The Walking Dead - S06E01 - First Time Again-thumb.jpg
Which metadata type was that created for in SR? After the move were there any errors or warning in the logs about metadata?
The files are not being moved, just renamed. They were initially renamed and moved by SB to my Unraid server. Meta data (nfo/jpg) was created by Media Companion.
In this case move and rename would be the same thing since the rename moves the file.
Ok, guess I’ll just have to change the naming pattern in Sonarr to match existing files since all files are not being renamed/moved.
Depending on your own naming convention, I never used sickrage so I don’t know what you had to deal with there, but could you maybe just throw them in this tool?

Using a renamer shouldn’t be necessary. Don’t see why when renaming the main video file, all accompaning files are renamed as well.
I personally never hold it against a service like this when i have to run a one-off process like renaming a bunch of files to convert from an old scheme to a new one. I just consider it the price of admission.
Not holding anything against any service. Just asking if the major competitor can do it, why can’t Sonarr do it. Considering the price of admission is free, one can only ask, not demand.
Its not a feature we support currently, we opted to solve other things first, though this is on our todo list, so are a ton of other things.
That’s all one can ask. Thanks.
