Release re-downloading itself or a more preferred release and back - in an infinite cycle

Sonarr version (exact version): 3.0.3.849
Mono version (if Sonarr is not running on Windows): 5.20.1.34
OS: Docker by linuxserver.io
Debug logs:
(Make sure debug logging is enabled in settings and post the full log to hastebin/pastebin/dropbox/google drive or something similar, do not post them directly here. Post in .txt not .doc, .rtf or some other formatted document)
Description of issue:
I have this issue on 3.0.3.849 on local machine, and don’t have this issue on 3.0.3.825 on remote server. I’m turning on debug logs only now, and updating to 3.0.3.892 locally to see if it has been fixed, but decided to post it now just in case, cause it rarely reproduces and eats memory until I unmonitor. Once my disk space even ended overnight cause I was asleep (I use recycle folder for removing files). I’ll post debug logs if it’ll reproduce again.

The local machine with 3.0.3.849 has Synology Download Station, while the remote machine with 3.0.3.825 has Transmission. I have “Remove imported downloads from download client history” unchecked on both, cause I like to control things.

I download same releases and use same indexers, profiles, preferred words.
In cases of those cycles, when I go to the interactive download after - there is always only one obvious preferred release, so the conflict probably lies somewhere else.

Also, this issue is only with anime releases.

I have notifications for upgrading releases from sonarr connect, and they look like this for this issue:

And here are my logs (only info level for now) for the same time: https://hastebin.com/pexewoxiho.rb

“Sequence contains more than one matching element” is the same error I get using the interactive download, when the Download Station client already has it.
I wonder what changed since it looks like it still adding and then importing a new download somehow.

In the interactive window, Erai has +10, while Kuroi has +14. There were cases for this show when Erai was even downloaded back after Kuroi-Subs, but it’s harder to find in logs, I can try to, if needed, but the old ones will be info level.
I think I had this issue only with this and one other anime.

Please tell me if I could provide any other relevant info for now, or if you are aware of the issue/it has been fixed, or you know what changes between 825 and 849 could have impact on this.

UPD:
Figured out I can simply reproduce by turning on monitoring.
And it did reproduce on 3.0.3.892.
This time I had previous downloads of the episode cleared in the download client initially, so there’s no error at first. But why it downloads it in the first place? It’s already there.
And the client again has 3 same downloads with ~30 minutes download interval (and until I’ll unmonotor).

We’ll need to see debug logs that include the processing of the releases that will show what scores are being calculated, trace logs covering the same time period will also show us exactly what Sonarr used to determine that score.

At first glance it looks like Sonarr doesn’t have a value store for the original release name for that episode file, which means it should use the filename itself, but if that’s missing the release group then it’d score 0 and think it’s an upgrade, but the debug/trace logs showing this will confirm.

Thanks, I rechecked and saw that my log level was somehow reset to the empty value after the update. Switched to debug and it works this time - log file name is different now and it has more info. Started to monitor the episode again and will post the actual debug logs here if anything happens.

Also, earlier I started monitoring previous episodes (that had the same loop at the time of their release) and nothing happened with them for hours so far (with 11th episode it reproduced barely minutes after that restart). Could this be an RSS issue?

If it’s not on the RSS feed still then you won’t see Sonarr process it again. RSS is usually the last 100 items, I wouldn’t expect something to be in the RSS feed more than a few hours usually.

That day when I succesfully turned on debug level, the bug no longer reproduced itself with the latest (11) episode monitoring turned back on, so it indeed feels like something rss-related or otherwise time-sensitive.
But today I finally caught it, with another series - Hamefura / Otome Game. It reproduced with other episodes of it before, just like with Tower of God, and I don’t remember any other title besides those two being affected by it, but no other show of mine has Kuroi-Subs or Aeenald releases, and I have those set in preferred keywords).

Debug logs: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1USysDEzfROZsTkV1cBqnt09ZgSfhyfij?usp=sharing

Currently my client has 1 HorribleSubs, 8 Erai-Raws, and 11 Aeenald (HEVC) completed downloads of the same episode. The preferred release by score in interactive download is the HEVC one (+14).

And here are the bot messages to navigate the logs:

Sadly the logs at the time of two first bot messages are not accessible to me anymore. Looks like debug logs have a lifespan of 24 hours or something, can it be increased somehow? And it would be nice if it was saving with relevant timestamp to txt filename on clicking download, cause in my case it fits about 30 minutes in one file, and their contents were shifted when I was going through the saving process, so I had to recheck and rename them accordingly.

Do you have trace logs as well? They’re not going to last as long as debug log, they’re very verbose. A search for that episode could still be helpful if you don’t have the original so long as there aren’t changed beyond the episode being unmonitored.

That’s going to tell us what information Sonarr had during the processing to figure out why the current file is a lower score than the release it’s processing. Best guess is it has to do with the actual file/folder in the torrent not aligning with the release name or Sonarr not storing it for some reason.

No, it’s a maximum of 50 rolling files, it’s not time based.

I didn’t turn trace on beforehand. Yesterday I unmonitored it after the last bot message (it was Erai at that point), and downloaded preferred hevc release via interactive dl.
Now I turned trace on, monitored the episode back, and used “search monitored” button for that show (wanted to not waste trace by waiting for reproduction).

Following that I saw 4 downloads of the episode were added at once in the client, two of them even containing the same release (hevc one), other were Erai and Horrible. It’s really weird cause it already had the most score-preferred release downloaded interactively, and even if it didn’t, why send all of them to the client, when it’s clearly different score for each of them in the UI. I hope logs will give some answer to that.

Here are trace and debug logs from starting to monitor and forcing “search monitored” at around ~8:30, to downloads finished at ~8:40:

I thought it could be because of different naming with that show and hevc release (cause in case of Horrible and Erai the filename and release name are always a perfect match)

[Aeenald] Hamefura - 12 [1080p HEVC X265 10-bit] [AAC 2.0] [Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta] [My Next Life as a Villainess]
Hamefura - 12 (1080p HEVC-10bit).mkv

But in case with the Tower of God from the first post the only difference there between releases and files is mkv at the end, and underscores instead of spaces:

[Kuroi-Subs] Tower of God - 11 [HEVC 1080p] [JAP+KOR] [9D126919]
[Kuroi-Subs]_Tower_of_God_-_11_[HEVC_1080p]_[JAP+KOR]_[9D126919].mkv

Oh, I see. But is it possible for the amount of files to be increased instead? At least as an extra debug setting.

Also while downloading multiple logs I thought of another idea to increase debug usability. Currently the Download button opens txt in the browser, which is useful, but because of that it’s impossible to save to file while single-clicking Download one by one, you have to Save As every one. So it could be useful to have separate Download and Open buttons.

I’m reading the trace logs now and I noticed a lot of cases where
UpgradableSpecification|Comparing preferred word score
goes after calculating it for a filename of not-monitored episode. For some of those cases all other episodes of the show are unmonitored too (but the show itself is monitored for the future). I was wondering - should it even calculate the scores of something that wasn’t monitored in the background?

Also now I can see why it re-downloads Hamefura in the logs from my previous post (file 8.30.sonarr.trace.15.txt):

It looks like it just calculates score from the existing filename on disk, instead of storing from grabbed release. What keyword I can search for in trace logs to see it trying to store/save the previously grabbed release name/score? To see why it is failing and downloading the same release again and again.

Another thing I yet need to figure out is why does it sends multiple releases to download client when I click “search monitored” button for the show. In the log file there are 4 cases of “release accepted”, I thought it should then decide which one to send to dl between those 4. Could you please point it out to me or tell the keyword for such action in the logs? Or is that decision happens only on import, and only issue that’s left is the scoring process itself?

The new episode of Tower of God was released in hevc, and now I have trace logs for when it’s replacing Kuroi-Subs with Kuroi-Subs.
I uploaded them to a new folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1D0DiJoCSIkYgNTY7xSHYAskTNjiqndt7

I have a couple of questions:
why did it scored
PreferredWordService|Calculated preferred word score for '[Kuroi-Subs] Tower of God - 12 [HEVC 1080p] [JAP+KOR] [14E5B2F9]': 14
but
PreferredWordService|Calculated preferred word score for '[Kuroi-Subs]_Tower_of_God_-_12_[HEVC_1080p]_[JAP+KOR]_[14E5B2F9]': 13
and
PreferredWordService|Calculated preferred word score for '[Kuroi-Subs]_Tower_of_God_-_12_[HEVC_1080p]_[JAP+KOR]_[14E5B2F9].mkv': 13
UPD: here the issue lies within my hevc regex which gives the score of 1 but needs to be adjusted from \b([xh].?265|hevc)\b to something that’ll include [ and _.

and why it does the scoring twice while processing one release from RSS (I guess that’s what it means by Processing release 66/145, and I cut off the logs right before processing 67)

UPD: TLDR: the main question left is: does sonarr usually stores the downloaded release name to score for later upgrades, and if it does, why it doesn’t work in my case and the upgrade scoring is based instead on the existing file name, which is plain and lacking a lot of info vs original release name?
