Proper downloading when setting turned off

I have Download Proper setting set to false, but Sonarr is still grabbing it. I am also using the SD profile, so it should stop after grabbing the SDTV version.

Is there a corresponding import event for the original grab?
If not Sonarr is likely treating the original as incomplete and grabbing another release (it will wait 12 hours before making that decision). If Sonarr is unable to import that will need to be correct or if you don’t want Sonarr to import, disable Completed Download Handling.

Oops, I should have clarified. I’m not using Completed Download Handling because I use torrents and a remote seedbox. So I’m using Drone Factory to import. This works fairly well and I right now manually download files from my seedbox. I’ve had it basically wait for a day or so before downloading and getting the episodes imported before, and never run into this.

Its possible its the same cause, since there hasn’t been anything imported Sonarr only sees the grab event, isn’t tracking the download anymore because it completed and CDH is off so it grabs the proper.

Using SSHFS to mount the seedbox share and using CDH is the recommended way to handle this, alternatively you could use still manually transfer files and use a remote path mapping to tel Sonarr where to find them, that way Sonarr is still able to track them.

Unfortunately, SSHFS isn’t really a viable option for me. I’ve performance tested it vs just doing an sftp download… sshfs gives me < half a megabyte a second, whereas sftp download will get me 9-14 megabytes a second and can max out my connection…

I’m not sure I follow the manual transfer and using a remote path mapping… how exactly would I set that up in Sonarr in a useful way. I thought Drone Factory was the way to go and so far had been working like I’d expect.

Drone factory is the legacy import method and will ultimately be removed at some point (likely in v3).

A remote path mapping tells Sonarr where to look for files when the download client reports a path thats not accessible by the System running Sonarr). Should be able to setup the remote path mapping in settings and once the files are transferred Sonarr will import them. Since you’re transferring files, its recommended that a the files have another extension appended to them while the file is transferring so Sonarr doesn’t import them before they are completely transferred file.mkv.temp for example.

Just so I’m following completely clear, I should stop using drone factory and switch to the completed download handling, and setup a remote path from the remote path on the seedbox to my local download location… I will try this out.

Also, maybe it was just a fluke, but I have not had any more where it grabbed a proper after grabbing the first one.

Yes, exactly.

I know this probably isn’t the best place for this… but since you kind of know how my setup is, I did as you instructed with the completed download handling and remote path… which seems to work well. I have noticed that I get a lot of error messages though like this “Import failed, path does not exist or is not accessible by Sonarr: [Path to local folder]” when it is waiting on the manual download. Is this to be expected?

Yeah, Sonarr expects it to be there and is checking for it, that’s one side effect of it.

I’ve got one last question about this kind of setup. Because I don’t need to keep the local manually downloaded files around. Is there way to tell Sonarr to remove the file after copying? I know under download client there is a remove option in the completed download handling… but it seems like this will tell my seedbox to remove the torrent rather than just remove the files from the local download location.

I’d suggest a [Custom Script] (https://github.com/Sonarr/Sonarr/wiki/Custom-Post-Processing-Scripts) that gets executed after Sonarr imports the files to clean them up.

That will keep it automated and could be as simple as deleting the file that is linked in the EpisodeFile_SourcePath environment variable.

Alright… had it do this again to me last night…

The Shannara Chronicles	1x10 (10)	Ellcrys	SDTV	12:35am

The one at 4:15am is a proper release. After actually importing one of them this morning at about 7am, my queue still shows 1 of them pending… so I don’t think it’s marking it as a bad release or anything… though it’s supposed to wait 12 hours for that if the release hadn’t been imported, right?

Looking at my rtorrent and the private site that it came from, it was not marked as bad or nuked or anything. The only thing that seems to happen is that the Proper got posted. Which I have the “download proper” set to No in Sonarr’s settings and I will say I’ve been grabbing shows fine in the past week with no instances of this occurring again until now.

I believe this is because we don’t check history/queue when deciding if a proper is worth grabbing.

is CDH enabled in your setup?

Yes. CDH is enabled and I have a remote path mapping for my seedbox, which also means I have to manually download the files right now. which I’m fine with.
