I forgot my username and password and tried to do what the faq instructed by deleting the auth line and such and this is what I end up with

What page are you loading when you get that? That looks like something on the UI side missing, but that wouldn’t happen with a restart after changing the config setting.
A reinstall should correct anything missing without affecting the DB/config.
