Options for different metadata sources

So the Star Wars Rebels season 2 numbering debacle is still going on, and TheTVDB has made a decision to lock it down with no further discussion listing the first episode of S02 as a special. This completely breaks downloading because all the seeds are using the now widely accepted numbering scheme (like from IMDB, themoviedb, tvmaze).

Thexem isn’t an option because this isn’t a scene mismatch, it’s due to a choice by TheTVDB.

My question, what’s my options? Can I change the metadata source? Can I manually create a NFO file? Looking at the xml it references a zip from TheTVDB, but I’m assuming if I hacked a change into that file it would just be overwritten.

This isn’t the first series that TheTVDB decided to make a unilateral decision that messes up downloads, so I’d like to know what my options are going forward. It would be great if we could either choose a different metadata source, or even have an option to put in the data manually.

Thanks all.

TheTVDB follows either the network or the production, usually the network.

If the numbering is different thats what the XEM is for.

You can’t change the source and for the few shows that might benefit from this I don’t see us adding another source of for show/episode, at least at this time. Most media center applications default to using TheTVDB for data anyways, so you likely want it in their numbering format anyways.

That XML file is either generated by Sonarr or another application that uses TheTVDB for its data, so changing it will do nothing.

Thank you for the reply. I understand that TheTVDB typically defaults to using the network guide, which is what they did here (though the network is conflicting depending on where on the site you look), but this is just the most recent example of where the network isn’t what the community writ large is using.

All of the media center applications I know of give me at least two choices, and most also give me the benefit of manual editing. I run Plex, and because of the problems with TheTVDB I removed it as an agent and now use the The Movie DB (themovidedb.org) because they acknowledge the community better than TheTVDB. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the work that TheTVDB does, I just don’t like how they shut down the community input and dictate solutions so quickly (yes I know you can’t solve for everyone). I think this is why the media center applications give the flexibility on the metadata.

I’m getting around this now by just manually getting the files, but it’s annoying to have to remember to do.

Again, thanks for your reply, hopefully having the option to use a different metadata agent is somewhere on the list of future features, and optimally having it as a per series option.
