Manual Import giving Unknown Series, looks random

Sonarr version (exact version): 2.0.0.4389
Mono version (if Sonarr is not running on Windows):4.2.3
OS: unRAID
Description of issue: Trying to manual import files, Sonarr marks them as Unknown Series

Hi, I’ve googled and searched the forum but the Unknown Series issue seems to be random and I’d like to figure out what I can do.

I first ran into problems trying to manually import Black Mirror and Luther. I tried renaming the files in different formats but they still show up as Unknown Series.

The latest problem I ran into are with these files:
Entourage.S08E04.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi
Entourage.S08E05.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi
Entourage.S08E06.The.Big.Bang.HDTV.XviD-FQM.avi
Entourage.S08E07.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.avi
Entourage.S08E08.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi

Fringe.S04E01.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi
Fringe.S04E02.HDTV.XviD-LOL.[VTV].avi
Fringe.S04E03.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi
etc

Person.of.Interest.S01E01.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.avi
Person.of.Interest.S01E02.HDTV.XviD-ASAP.avi
etc

Shameless.US.S02E01.DVDSCR.XViD-DOCUMENT.avi
Shameless.US.S02E02.Summer.Loving.HDTV.XviD-FQM.[VTV].avi
etc

sherlock.the_abominable_bride.720p_hdtv_x264-fov[ettv].mkv

But these files are recognized:
Suits.S04E14.PROPER.HDTV.x264-KILLERS.mp4
Suits.S02E07.Sucker.Punch.PROPER.HDTV.x264-FQM.[VTV].mp4

Sherlock.3x03.His.Last.Vow.REPACK.HDTV.x264-FoV.mp4

It looks random to me. I’d like to figure out what makes those filenames unrecognizable. Is it the format? They look similar to the recognized files. Is Sonarr not able to link the file to TVDB? Is there some way I can link it manually?

We’d need to see the ((debug logs)) to see why Sonarr is returning that. Nothing in the names looks blatantly wrong, so as long as the series is in Sonarr it should be picked up.

Hi, thanks for replying.

Here is a pastebin link to my debug log, hope that helps:

It looks like you have sorted and unsorted files in the same place and Sonarr is trying to reprocess sorted files (through Drone Factory maybe?), you should separate to distinct locations to avoid issues.

Did you mean sorted as in processed by Sonarr? None of those files have been processed by Sonarr. I put the files in the same folder SAB downloads to and where Sonarr looks for downloads.

I managed a solution by adding a series to Sonarr via the Add Series button, and then I went to Wanted and did Manual Import again. Sonarr seems to able to link the files to the series once the series is in its database.

Maybe that’s what I should be doing instead of going straight to Manual Import? Sorry very new to Sonarr and I’m migrating files from my old NAS (that was just file storage, no media management).

But my Shameless episodes are still not importing, still getting the Unknown Series error even though I already have Shameless (US) in Sonarr. (I put the files in where Sonarr looks, not the Shameless (US) media folder).

Yes, the series needs to exist in Sonarr for Sonarr to import it (as I mentioned in the first reply). You can add existing series via Add Series -> Import Existing.

In the logs the folder is named Shameless, which would match the the UK version of the show, not the US version. You’ll want to name the folder to include US in it.

Thank you, I’ll remember to try Add Series next.

That worked like magic! Sonarr recognized everything. I thought Sonarr parsed file names, didn’t know the folder naming affected it too. Thanks again.

It uses both, it uses the folder name to determine if pointed at a folder of folders to figure out if it should dig into each folder, but the filename to determine which season + episode in the season it is.
