I’ve noticed this week there are lots of fake files being downloaded. They are around the right size for an SD 42 mins ep and they are named correctly with the wmv extension, but play as a corrupt green square and are released weeks ahead of schedule. I believe these are using a wmv exploit in windows players to install a virus. As I’m using Kodi on Ubuntu I guess I’m safe from the exploit. I’ve seen lots in the last year, with this week being particularly bad. Lots of fake movies have come down via CouchPotato too.
So… Is there any way of detecting these? I know Sonarr checks file extensions but these have valid extensions. Could we possibly get a filter to disable wmv files? The only thing I can do is set everything to HD as currently they only seem to be faking SD sizes.
Does anyone have any good ideas of how to get around these fakes?
Sonarr has no way of knowing the extension until its downloaded, at that point only manually removing it would be of use. Anything in the name you could add to ignore (Release Restriction)? Otherwise using verified sources/other indexers is probably your best bet that this time.
I’m mainly using KAT, and I have trusted only turned on. However, due to the UK IP blocking and the flakyness of KAT proxies, I’ve backed it up with Pirate Bay and Torrentz via Jackett, which I think is where the fake files are coming from.
I used newsgroups for a very long time. However, with the DMCA takedowns, trying to populate shows with older episodes was becoming impossible, so I switched to torrents. No problems usually until this wmv exploit came about.
Well, there’s ya problem. TPB and Torrentz are kinda like a dumpster. You gotta be really sure what you’re looking for before you start digging around there… and bring a flashlight.
