Develop branch auto switched to Master

FYI,

The last push to develop auto switched mine to master for some reason? I’ve switched mine back, of course! :stuck_out_tongue:

LJ

I think because master was updated to the same improvements as develop, so they were the same?
(For a short duration at least, it seems there’s already an update in develop  )

There were 1800 people on develop, we wanted to cut that number drastically, so we forced everyone back to it. We’ll be removing the forced redirect in the coming days so people can switch back gracefully.

Only just seen this thread as I’d noticed that I and 3 of my friends and family’s installations had reverted since 27/01.

Was there an announcement ?? Having a wiki entry is a bit hidden unless you trawl though it every day.

Is there a way of opting out of any future migrations back to MASTER please ??

I wouldn’t worry about it for the future. It was only done this time around because so many people switched to develop to get torrent support. People who are not actually used to or equipped for being on a beta channel. I think it’s a good thing people were auto-switched back, and it’s not like there’s much harm in switching back to develop manually this one time.

There were nearly 1800 users on develop, some had switched for anime and never switched back, but mostly it was for torrents, before torrent we had about 500, most of which would have forgotten and not switched back ever.

We did it because we want to keep things running smoothly and not worry about people finding things broken days later. We also want develop to be used by people that are using Sonarr more than the typical user, its not for everyone its a testing branch and we want early feedback.

Yes, we will do this again when we decide that enough people have migrated to develop for fixes and we feel its in the best interest for users and us (pushing a less stable build to 2000 is a bit nerve wracking).

No, there will not be an opt-out.

We’re still considering our options to make it more obvious.

I switched to develop branch many months ago for one feature and stayed on it. I never switched to the torrent branch as I don’t use torrents.

I don’t have an issue if anything breaks my set up on the develop branch, but would have liked to see some sort of notification that I had been switched to MASTER.

No worries, back on develop again.

If you switched to develop for one feature, then why would you want to stay on develop? It would be in master now. You don’t sound like the kind of person that should be on a beta channel to be honest. A beta channel is meant to help the developers test the release, not to gain early access to a feature you like.

That’s a stupid reply.

I am on dev builds of lots of software to help test out updates/new features.

It’s not my fault that the Sonarr developers don’t put out dodgy releases!

Keep your opinion to yourself in future please.

That’s a bit of the pot calling the kettle black, please keep it civil @CBers @NMe.

I think the point @NMe is trying to make is that we (the Sonarr Team) made this switch because of users like you in the sense that you switched for one feature and never switched back, you made the conscience decision to stay and thats fine we want people to test it out, what we didn’t want is over 1000 users that switched for a bug fix or a feature that was now available and then if there is an issue with a release they don’t notice for weeks on end and then come asking.

The fact that we didn’t shout this change from the rooftops was intentional, we didn’t want a bunch of people that moved over for the previously outlined reasons to think they were suddenly missing out on a feature and switch back without understanding the ramifications. Originally we planned to announce it a few days later, but once we opened up the develop branch again we had a few hundred users back on in within a couple days, which is ideally where we wanted to be.

No kettles over here

As I said earlier, I’m more than happy to test out new updates/releases, as I do with other software I use, but more often than not, I don’t get any issues.

If the Developers want a smaller group of testers, then perhaps a test team should be created and members invited to it, rather than anyone being able to run the develop branch.

We’ve thought of that, but its not worth the effort to manage it. We’re not trying to stop people from using it (anyone can switch back), but we also didn’t want to have everyone and their dog that switched to it in the last 2 years to be on it unless they intend to.

The switch resulted in no loss of functionality and required 10 seconds of effort to switch back, we’ve all wasted more time than that on this thread today, we’re just beating a dead horse.

Agreed.

Thanks for all of your assistance since I joined the community.

I expect this to happen at least once a year.
