[dev] Show keyboard shortcuts with '?'

I just saw update 2.0.0.1721, which says I can now press ‘?’ to show keyboard shortcuts. For the life of me, I can’t get this to work. Maybe I’m overlooking the obvious here.

I have tried every combination of ctrl, alt, shift and ? and still no go.
I tried this in various screens like Series, Settings, System, … to no avail.

System:

  • drone is running on synology (I guess that doesn’t really matter here)
  • client: Windows 7 + Firefox v30.0
  • I’m using an azerty keyboard, which means I have to press ‘shift+?’ if I want to type a question mark. maybe this is doing something weird?

I can confirm that keyboard shortcuts are working, because I can press ‘t’ to focus on the search box, or change a setting and press ‘ctrl+s’ in the settings.

edit: tried in internet explorer, exactly the same behavior.

A bit related: before this update I didn’t even know that drone had keyboard shortcuts…

Awesome feature is awesome! I love the “press ‘t’ to focus the searchbox”! I poked around a bit on the forums, github etc, but couldn’t really find an easy list of all shortcuts. You guys should advertise this more :wink:
Perhaps a simple wiki page?
I only know of ‘?’ and ‘ctrl+s’ through the update note, and ‘t’ to focus on the search box through google…

Its the keyboard layout thats causing it, I’ll have to figure out a better way to implement this. Which character is the primary character on that key? on QWERTY its: /

Maybe it’s better to pick an unmodified key rather than the question mark, since those are more reliably addressable from javascript. The sad thing is that it can’t be / since many browsers make that trigger their search function. Unless you can make it an accesskey instead, but I don’t know how well that would work for Drone.

Question mark is used by lots of sites, so this is a solved problem (I hope), both Github and Trello handle ? as a hotkey.

In keeping with other sites I think it makes sense to use ?

Got a couple people to try it out in IRC and I’ve pushed a fix, let me know if it doesn’t work in a build after 2.0.0.1728 (inclusive).

t has been in drone (v2) for a long time, ctrl+s was just added at the same time as ?.

A wiki page is problematic for a couple reasons, one being, most people won’t use it about half the questions asked have already been answered either on the wiki or on the forums. The other reason is its yet another thing to maintain, which isn’t going to happen beyond the first time or two.

I understand your sentiment about the wiki, it was just a mad idea. I guess it’s not that relevant anymore, since users can just press ? in-app to see the list. But before that, how could we plebs know that we can press t to focus the search box? :wink:
(maybe it was advertised in some way in the beginning, my eyes were opened to the drone goodness only a couple of months ago)

It was an easter egg before, most people that found it due to a bug I think (it was stealing focus away from new tab).

I think it makes sense to have ? listed as a hotkey somewhere though.
