Currently I have a profile for TV episodes set for any quality at 720p with the cut-off at WEBDL-720p. I also have only continuing shows monitored for future episodes. Although it may not be possible with older shows, it’s my intention to download existing episodes that don’t meet my cut-off by manual search over time, or possibly doing it automatically a season at a time. With those settings, if I view my cut-off unmet/unmonitored episodes, I get a 150 page list of episodes.
Probably the majority of the episodes I have checked so far indicate a status of HDTV-720p, and when I perform a manual search the exact same file is being shown as WEBDL-720p. The cut-off has in fact already been met then, but the status was recorded incorrectly when the file was imported so I have to modify the episode file. If I did try to automate this process, I believe this would just result in an error occurring once the ‘new’ file was downloaded due to identical file size.
Is there any reason for this behaviour, or hopefully a way to correct it. Having to check all of those episodes manually is a little daunting especially if quite a lot of them don’t belong there.
Sonarr determines the quality (source + resolution) based on the filename, it sounds like when the files were imported the quality was not part of the filename so Sonarr determined the quality based on the extension only, which would be HDTV 720p for MKV files.
If the quality was detected wrong you can update it per file, per season or per series (per season or series on the series details page), but if you have an assorted collection of qualities it won’t be quick to check every file.
I was wondering how Sonarr determined the file quality.
From what you’ve said, I’ve realised the source of the discrepancy. All my existing files are named according to series title - sxxexx - episode title with no quality information. The quality information would have been there when originally downloaded, but had long been removed by the time I bulk imported them so Sonarr defaulted to HDTV720p.
I believe I will have to check them on a per file basis so yes it’s going to be an extremely long task. My alternative is to perhaps automate it a season at a time, and let the files be downloaded again regardless. I can then modify the quality of any files that error during import.
