Sonarr version (exact version): 4.0.15.2941 Mono version (if Sonarr is not running on Windows): OS: Windows 11 Debug logs: Description of issue:
Hey everyone, so I am super new to this whole Sonarr thing so if I sound ignorant; its because I am at least in this regard. I have been reading and reading various forum posts and reading the Wiki but none of this just makes any sense to me and I need a basic tutorial on what to do (i mean like a 3rd grader - point and click here type of deal) with this.
So I currently have a barebones Sonarr setup and I wanted to customize the download of a show. I have the show added, I have it set to 1080p quality so that is good. I have it connected to my qBittorrent client and all good. I have added 3 indexers (EZTV, RARBG & showRSS) and they all test good. And the show downloads…GREAT!
Here is what I am trying to do, the show will randomly download packages that vary in file size. Sometimes I get a 1080p thats a couple hundred MB and sometimes I get a file thats GBs in size. I wanted to standarize this as I dont have much space to work with and I only watch the shows on my computer anyway and then delete them. So I want to download these x265-1080p files that are only a couple hundred MB in size. So I have followed the steps from this May forum post about x265 with the custom formats, qualities and scores. Unfortunately this does not work as I can see the torrent file on one of the sites I have as an indexer but it doesnt download it (these ELiTE and MeGusta files are fine by me)…it instead downloads the larger file size of x264 or just completely ignores the download all together like its not even there. I then tried this Release Profile but once again nothing happens at all.
As someone who does not understand this regex stuff and is just copying/pasting to try and get something to work so I dont have to manually download the files I want…can someone school me on what I did wrong/how to fix it?
I think I may have figured something out as I may have multiple issues going on. So I went back through the setup of the x265 custom formats and I changed the spelling to be ELiTE and MeGusta instead of all lowercase since it states the regex is case sensitive and I was able to get my show to download that was posted to EZTV (one of my indexers).
So then I remonitored the episode and deleted that indexer as the show was also on the RARBG site and redid the scan and it did NOT pick that one up. So I am thinking that maybe the indexers are showing as green and test good but are actually not doing anything.
I also tried adding the 1337x indexer as well but the Sonarr GUI immediately tells me that there is something wrong when I begin scanning for the show with the indexer even though it tests good. So now I am wondering if the indexers are the issue and not the format. Is there a way to tell other than the error that appears in the GUI if something is wrong with an indexer? That is just where my mind if going that the issue is. Please let me know if I am wrong as I just want this bad boy to download my shows the way I need them too
Can confirm after adding some new shows and using only the EZTV indexer that shows will download with my fixed format (after updating the lowercase)
However, the one show I want is not on EZTV in the format I want…but it is on RARBG but when I add RARBG…it still does NOT download the episode (been out for 2 days). The show doesnt have any special characters or words that may confuse languages or anything like that so I am confused why it wont snag anything from there
So I found it on another site that had an indexer eventually and it was able to download so it just appears that the RARBG indexer connects but is not functioning properly at this time (10/22/2025). So that apparently was the combination issue for me.
I followed the x265 steps in my first comment but had to change the case sensitivity for things to start downloading and the other thing was that the RARBG Indexer appears to not work properly.
Appreciate anyone listening to my rant and me trying to figure out how these formats and customs and such work
