Anime Support: Dub vs Sub

Hi guys, great work on the anime support. I’m not a huge anime watcher but I dabble here and there. I’m not too familiar with anime naming conventions on usenet but is there an effective way to filter my searches to only anime that are dubbed in English? I’m, for example, trying to get a show that I believe has a dubbed version, but I got the subbed one.

Thanks.

drone doesn’t yet support filtering based on release group or key words, so you will have to do that manually for the time being. I assume those dubbed releases come from a specific release group so you will be able to do that when support is added.

No ETA, but you can follow: https://trello.com/c/2jwUd6yh/727-anime-part-2 for more information when its implemented.

Good to know, thanks.

Besides filtering release groups I don’t think there is a surefire way to recognize dubs. They’re not usually marked as dubs. If you’re lucky, the episode title is different in the dub, but Drone understandably can’t act on that. And if the release group that releases the dub also released subs there is no real way for Drone to know which is which.

Okay thanks. I’ll just have to get lucky and then try to have them grab different NZB’s if it gets a SUB version and I think there is a DUB version out there I guess. Either way, kudos to devs – followed instructions with adding support from existing indexers and added the new ones and it’s been a smooth ride. Now just add movie and music support so I can get rid of more programs.

Typically, only sub releases will be posted to the anime specific groups. If you want a dubbed version, you very likely should be able to add it as a regular TV release and it will then start pulling dubs.

I was unable to get anime series that I can get now with the new anime features and setting them up as anime, and from what I have experienced, the series that do have dubbed versions seem to come in as such so it’s still very convenient.

I’m pretty sure dubs use absolute numbering for their episodes too though. I don’t think Drone can grab those if you make it a standard series, and if you make it an anime series you don’t know whether or not it will grab dubs or subs. I think Markus is right in saying that release group filtering is probably your best bet once Drone supports it, but I think it’s in no way watertight. It’s a bit of a shortcoming in the way the scene names their releases.
