Why does Quality seem to default to 720p

Sonarr version (exact version): 2.0.0.5054
OS: Windows Server 2013

Occasionally my external drive bay disappears from windows, which causes sonarr to mark episodes that are on it as missing, which is fine. However, when I refresh a series, or the refreshseries task runs, to reload the episodes when the drives have been restored it seems to always add the episodes back in as 720p. Even if they were 1080p.

How can I configure it to ensure that it picks the right resolution when refreshing series? I have analyse video files checked, and the quality tab is pretty much default. What is the process that sonarr uses to figure out the resolution for the quality and how can I influence it?

Is it purely by the release name? Will it look at the filename of the episode when it rescans folders? I don’t currently include the quality in the filename, but if I did would it use that?

Currently it’s purely on the file name when importing files in the series folder. Reading the resolution from the file is something we have planned, but that’d still limit the detection to HDTV 720p, 1080p or 2160p.

Including the quality in the filename would allow Sonarr to use the filename.

Thanks Markus! That’s cleared things up, I’ll start on the big job of updating the resolutions and organising the episodes into their new names!
