Why do TVDB API Calls go through Skyhook?

The reason i ask is, the last couple of days there have been times when the skyhook URL is not accessible and Sonarr then becomes kinda useless…

If the day comes that you guys shut your servers down, what then for the software?

Will you release a version that points straight to tvdb?

Because the TVDB API is a free for all, skyhook cleanses the data and makes sure it’s in a consistent format, also adding in air times relative to UTC so air times show properly no matter the timezone you’re in.

You’re not able to add/refresh shows, but it’s not useless.

We’ll address that if it comes to that, but no plans for that.

No plans for that.

Any reason this normalization couldn’t be done locally in Sonarr?

There is information being added that would still require a server, it also drastically drops API calls to TheTVDB, which gets worse with TVDB v2 and avoids having to hit multiple services to pull in extra data, originally TVRage, but we’re also looking at TVMaze so some additional info.

TVDB has also gone down multiple times this year, obviously we both strive to be up as much as possible, but recent downtime with Skyhook is being addressed and we’re not going anywhere.
