Sonarr no longer generating metadata for manually imported files

Sonarr version (exact version): 3.0.3.703
Mono version (if Sonarr is not running on Windows): 6.8.0.105
OS: ubuntu 19.10
Debug logs:
(Make sure debug logging is enabled in settings and post the full log to hastebin/pastebin/dropbox/google drive or something similar, do not post them directly here. Post in .txt not .doc, .rtf or some other formatted document)
Description of issue:

sonarr used to create metadata for manually imported files (i.e. files downloaded outside of sonarr and manually dropped into the proper directory), I could do a scan and it would pick them up.

While it still picks them up, it doesn’t generate metadata for them anymore. is this a regression? noticed it only after sonarr informed me of its update.

What do debug logs show?

nothing, they detect the files, but no errors / exceptions.

moved directory away, scanned, made them all red, moved directory back, made all green, nothing changed.

I’m also seeing the same behavior with files that metadata was created for, but which I manually renamed (i.e. in shell, to clear up obfuscation) and rescanned. the rescan picks up the new file names, but doesn’t create the metadata associated with the new file names.

Can you post a screenshot of your metadata settings?

I’ll see if I can reproduce.

can’t screenshot, but its everything checked for kodi and rockbox/wdtv are not enabled

Those are info level logs, not debug logs, you’ll need to enable debug logging then post the relevant logs. Please upload them elsewhere and link them here, you can do the same for a screenshot of settings.

nothing changes

I too now seem to be having the same issue as above, but with the additon of the “Complete Handling” process no longer working either, weird.

This as only just started to exhibit today, currently using the 3.0.3.712 build.

If you require any additional logs, let me know.

they broke complete handling process and then fixed it, but you won’t be able to update to the fixed version as it keeps the mono process stuck. the only way I was able to avoid it was by uninstalling sonarr, reinstalling it with the old version and upgrading to the most recent version.

they really need a mechanism to force updates

Thanks Toad, I’ll take a look see what I can do… :+1:

So I’ve upgraded to 3.0.3.713 on Win8 and still the same issues.

Is there a way to roll back??

metadata hasn’t been fixed. I never said it was. but its able to automatically import the files it downloads which was broken.

My bad, I’d installed as a Service, not in Startup Folder, was having issues accessing network drives…

Still need to test metadata issue though.

You’re on the develop branch of a beta… bound to be issues here and there, no matter how stable it’s been so far

I’m not saying there won’t be issues, but there should be mechanisms in place to be able to fix the issues, instead of designing a system that can break and can’t fix itself.

In Ubuntu, we call it sudo apt install sonarr; it works amazingly well.

Seriously, in the years that Sonarr has been available I can count on my hands (maybe one hand) how many times that people have had to manually update Sonarr because of a bad update.

Our goal is to ensure these types of issues do not not make it to stable releases, but as you’re using beta software (which exists to find these bugs before they make it to a stable release) then the expectation is you may have re-install manually once in a while.

I’d think it use apt. except it doesn’t. I have 2 options with my apt installed sonarr, script and built-in. and I’m musing built-in.

when I uinstalled and reinstalld sonarr via apt, it had the old version and then updated itself via built in mechanism skipping the bad version.

I installed via instructions here: https://sonarr.tv/#downloads-v3-linux-ubuntu

see all the versions here: http://apt.sonarr.tv/ubuntu/pool/main/s/sonarr/

however, going back to the instructions, for v3 it says

“deb https://apt.sonarr.tv/ubuntu bionic main”

lets look at what dists are actually available

in http://apt.sonarr.tv/ubuntu/dists/

we see bionic (as above) bionic-develop and bionic-master.

following the instructions, I have bionic obviously

http://apt.sonarr.tv/ubuntu/dists/bionic/main/binary-amd64/Packages shows that only 3.0.2 is available via apt.

but it still updates via the builtin mechanism (as noted, apt isn’t an option)

perhaps if I had it installed with bionic-develop I would be using the apt update method?

Sonarr’s updater does not use apt. I’m saying the fix for this was to simply re-install Sonarr through apt, the underlying issue prevented the built-in updater from functioning at all.

anyways, this thread got off track, what about the metadata generating issues for manually imported files? (i.e. dropped into proper directory and scanned, scan sees files, marks them as green, but never generate metadata)

thanks fixed and working again
