Sonarr fails to download episodes for a specific series

Sonarr version (exact version): 2.0.0.5153
OS: Windows 7 x64
Debug logs: N/A
Description of issue: Sonarr did not initiate a download for “Riverdale.S02E14.Chapter.Twenty-Seven.The.Hills.Have.Eyes.720p.NF.WEB-DL.DD5.1.x264-NTb” and I am trying to understand why. For now, I only have “Info” logs and they only show that this episode was processed by Sonarr but no download is initiated (if necessary I may be able to collect debug logs for the next episode).

I have reviewed my settings and compared them with other series I have configured which do work. The main difference I have found is that there is a “Riverdale US” tag on the show which this release clearly does not have - see the this screenshot. I tried to fill a “Scene Mapping Request” for this but was answered “same title”.

Can anyone shed some light on what this “Riverdale US” tag means? Am I right to assume that this will prevent sonarr from picking up releases which do not include the “US” part? If so how can I update this? Alternatively how do you suggest I proceed to investigate this issue?

Hey, quite the other way around.
If a series has an alternate title, like “Riverdale US” in this case, this means that releases containing “Riverdale” and “Riverdale US” will be treated as belonging to that series.
Without it, sonarr would consider those releases as belonging to a series called “Riverdale US”, which obviously doesn’t exist, so it would never grab them.

This is because some release groups add the series tagline (e.g. Spartacus, Spartacus Blood and Sand, Spartacus War of the Damned are all the same series) or for some reason they add the country (in this case).
More notably in anime, which I don’t watch, there seem to be at least 5 titles for the same series. I don’t pretend to understand why.

To get back to why sonarr didn’t grab the release, the easiest is to see how sonarr thinks by doing a manual search for that episode.

In the search results, take note of the order (top to bottom, don’t sort on other columns) and the red exclamation marks.
Whichever release is at the top and has no red exclamation marks is the one that sonarr would have grabbed if it saw that release on your indexer(s) rss feed.

If the release you reference above has a red exclamation mark, hover over it to understand why sonarr rejects it. This can be for a number of reasons, usually restricted words, size, quality, …

I’m assuming here you haven’t downloaded it manually yet. If you have, it will have a red exclamation saying the file on disk is equal or better than the release (obviously, you already have it). So ignore that warning, and see if there are other warnings.

Hope that helps you a bit on the way to find the cause.

First of all many thanks for the detailed and quick reply. I am new to Sonarr and still trying to get the hang of things.

I tried searching for the episode, the problem is that the search does not work with my private trackers, so I can’t get that exact release name in the search results. I can find releases with relative similar names and it seems everything is set up correctly (it definitively is willing to accept “Riverdale” releases without “US” in the name). I guess I’ll just have to wait for the next episode and hope for the best. I’ll also try to remember to switch the logs to debug just in case.

Thanks.

I can confirm that this week’s episode was downloaded automatically. Not really sure what the problem was but its working now.
