Description of issue:
I recently discovered in Plex that I had several hundred duplicate TV episodes. The pattern for the ones I’ve checked is always the same: There are two episodes in the specific folder for that episode, but one is a higher quality than the other. When I look up that same episode in Sonarr and open the details, Sonarr always reports only one file, being the higher quality one. It doesn’t show the other file in the details for that episode.
I suspect what’s happening is Sonarr finds an upgrade for a given episode and downloads it and puts it into the correct folder, but then for some reason doesn’t delete the older, lower quality file.
When I review the history for the particular episode, I always see both downloads recorded there, but no deletion in the history. In other words, Sonarr seems to know it has downloaded two different files, but for some reason on the detail page (under Path) doesn’t seem to know there are two files there.
I imagine there may be multiple reasons for this behaviour and likely perhaps due to a setting I’ve missed or how I’ve set up my instance of Sonarr, but I’ve reviewed my settings and file permissions, and can’t seem to find the underlying cause of this behaviour.
I’d be grateful for any suggestions on how I could remedy this issue or even next steps to diagnose it.
