[Solved] [refreshseries] Failed, only for certain shows

Sonarr version (exact version): 2.0.0.3732
Mono version (if Sonarr is not running on Windows): 3.10.0 (tarball Thu Feb 4 00:22:52 PST 2016)
OS: FreeNAS 9.10 (OpenBSD)
((Debug logs)): http://pastebin.com/BZ39rjn7
Description of issue: Adding certain shows or importing certain shows from existing folders produces “[refreshseries] Failed” error. Reinstalling Sonarr and setting it up from scratch produces the same result. Has been happening for the past few weeks. Any suggestions?

Are you using a VPN or other shared IP? It looks like CloudFlare is blocking your connections as you aren’t able to connect to any of our services (which are behind CloudFlare).

Thanks for the reply markus101,

It is a static IP, no VPN, it is routinely checked against most blacklists (running an email server from that IP) tested with a bunch of reputation services just now and it scores neutral with all.
I am able to access cloudflare.com and websites that are protected by cloudflare via browser. Can also access sonarr.tv via browser from that IP. sonarr.tv also resolves to one of cloudflare’s ip’s (104.28.31.14 and 104.28.30.14) from the machine where sonarr is installed, so does not seem to be a dns issue either.

What’s strange is, it all started with one show not updating episodes, once I’ve started investigating, reinstalled and imported > 170 shows only 6 are having this issue, including the original culprit.

I will PM the IP shortly in case it helps with tracking down the issue. The only other non standard thing I can think of is that IP shares a Reverse DNS record with another IP of ours.

Once again, thanks for looking into this.

Sorry for the delay, I looked up your IP and don’t see any activity for it (not too odd since CloudFlare is acting as a reverse proxy for connections).

Besides connections to our services I see connections to thexem.de are failing as well, which does not use CloudFlare.

Is there a local firewall that is preventing connections? On Windows we occasionally see that same exception linked to 3rd party firewalls that are blocking the connectivity.

I do have a network firewall here, had a quick look at the logs and it seems fine. It only fails for 6 series so far. All other series add fine.

Here is a log for Timeless which can be added without any issues. (http://pastebin.com/cEspj8xu) I can see from the log it has other errors but it doesnt seem to affect any major functionality. If you look at line 29 you can see a response is received from skyhook.sonarr.tv.

Here is a log for Z Nation (http://pastebin.com/m786CedW) if you look at line 32 you can see the request is sent but no response is received. I can visit http://skyhook.sonarr.tv/v1/tvdb/shows/en/280494 in the browser from a desktop behind the same firewall/IP.

Thexem.de seems to be working for both, looking at the latest logs.

It is strange that you can’t seem to locate my IP as other series update without any issues from the same (server/IP) and they all connect to skyhook.sonarr.tv for info.

Are you sure you checked the correct IP? I sent it as a response to the welcome to the forum message as I don’t seem to be able to compose new PM’s.

One thing I noticed is: all the failing shows seem to be towards the end of the alphabetical order. The following shows fail:

Westworld
Wynonna Earp
X Company
The X-Files
Young & Hungry
Z Nation

Yes, the firewall never sees your IP as a source IP because the connection comes from CloudFlare, I do see your IP in the web server logs. I’ve whitelisted your IP for our site on CloudFlare to rule out it being selectively blocked by them.

In the web server logs the only connection from your IP to fetch http://skyhook.sonarr.tv/v1/tvdb/shows/en/280494 is coming from Chrome, not Sonarr.

Missed this the first time, but this is an old version of Sonarr (from January), there have been lots of changes in the last 9 months, which may help here, before digging into a possibly resolved issue you should update Sonarr and test again.

Resolved the issue, it was on my end after all. I have a transparent proxy set-up for Webfiltering, caching etc. on the firewall. Looks like it was messing with sonarr. Set sonarr’s IP to bypass the proxy and all is working.
Still cant figure out why it was only those 6 shows, and only in the past few weeks. Thanks for your help markus101, sorry for wasting your time.

P.S. Latest available version of sonarr “plugin” for FreeNAS is 2.0.0.3732, however I updated via Sonarr UI and all is working so far.
