Show/season/eppisode monitoing

Just a clarification on the show/season/episode level monitoring, I get that turning off monitoring for an episode will no longer monitor that epp, that is straight forward. But what about season, if I am half way though a season and I turn off season monitoring and then tomorrow a new epp is released is that new epp monitored?

For an epp to be monitored does the hierarchy of monitoring need to be Show/season/epp? if any one of them is unmonitored then the epp is not monitored?

I think the thing that is confusing me is that if I turn off season monitoring all the episodes in that season are marked as unmonitored but if I then set one epp back to monitored the season is still set as unmonitored so that means the episode is still unmonitored because the season is unmonitored.

Perhaps if a single epp in a season that is unmonitored is set to monitored then the season is also set to monitored and in fact go all the way up and set the show to monitored.

An example of this would be:

  • everything is set to unmonitored show/all seasons/all episodes
  • a single epp on season 1 is set to monitored
  • this sets the epp to monitored but also sets season 1 to monitored and also the show is set to monitored
  1. If a new episode gets added and you’ve unmonitored the season (not just the episodes in the season it will be unmonitored) - this is to deal with episodes getting added.

  2. Series would need to be monitored, but its possible to ignore the season, but unignore a single episode (or vice versa).

  3. I think that would be more confusing, I get where you’re coming from season monitoring (more on that in a second), but monitoring the series based on a single episode being monitored would be odd behavior. The reason season and episode are monitored separately is to deal with another episode getting added to an unmonitored season - so it would get automatically ignored. The more I think about it, the more I dislike the why season and episode monitoring works, I’ll give it some thought on how to address it, but no plans to change how series monitoring works.

@markus101 I agree. after reading @faush01 explanation it does seem confusing. maybe monitoring an episode on an ignored series ignores the season.

also we should disable the ignore toggle for season/episode if the series is ignored since they would have no effect and just confuse the user.

That seems a bit confusing. Or do you mean unignores the season if the season is ignored

Yeah, that would make sense.

I guess this is what is confusing me, the season is unmonitored but a single epp in the season is monitored, the logic is a bit weird.

disabled - that may be the key here
any situation where the monitoring state would be ignored due to the parent series or season being set to unmonitored then the monitored status of all children should be disabled as it has no effect.

Also the monitoring icon can be confusing, is a solid icon on or off, perhaps the mouse over should have the current status in it.

@markus101, yes. what you said
