RSS Sync Quantity and Manual Searching

Hi,
I’m new to sonarr but have been using sickbeard for quite some time. I use NZB.su as my primary index and am waiting for oznzb to come back online after getting VIP a few days ago (whoops)…

I’m trying to wrap my head around the rss syncing vs. backlog searching/manual search. etc. I spent some time on the wiki but haven’t figured it out quite yet.

First I have a pretty dumb question: What is the difference between manual search and automatic search?

Q2) Each time I do an RSS sync I get 99 reports. If i only sync every 10 minute or 15 minutes and only get 99, is it expected that I’m going to miss something? I can’t seem to find a way to configure this but maybe I’m over-estimating the amount of releases to the SD and HD categories over a period of time?

Q3) My HTPC is up from 8AM to 12PM each day. I’m surely going to miss some stuff. Do I need to do something or should things work automagically? I’ve only had sonaar up for a few days and it’s the slow season right now.

Q4) The christmas editions of three very popular shows right now won’t for some reason go onto my wanted list in sonaar. I’ve toggled them being monitoring and not and they show up in the calendar as all airing yesterday. They did not download yesterday during the rss sync while the computer was on. “Manually” or “Automatically” searching for them yields no results. Even though I’ve clicked search for them multiple times, the episode shows no activity. I guess I expected a time stamp of tried to search in those shows.

Q5) Since I’m able to manually search for these specials on nzb.su directly and find them as the top listing, I would think that sonaar could as well but it seems like everything has issues with specials. So perhaps as an alternative, could sonaar’s API ingest NZBs like sabnzbd does? I “added to cart” and am downloading just fine via SAB now, but the downside is the post processing is gone.

Appreciate any advice and Thanks much!

Automatic will chose the best acceptable release and grab it. Manual let’s you choose which release to grab.

You’re only going to have problems if more than 100 new nzbs are posted in that 15 minute window, not likely to happen (I haven’t seen it happen, that I’ve noticed at least), leave it at 15 minutes and don’t worry about it.

I assume you mean 12am (midnight), otherwise your bound to miss pretty much everything, due to DMCA. Sonarr will look for recently aired missed episodes if it hasn’t run its RSS sync for a while due to it being offline (sleeping, shutdown, etc), that should find those releases assuming they were already posted, shows that are posted days later might be missed if it’s not still in the RSS feed when it scans again, only time will tell.

Specials are always going to be an issue, they aren’t posted using a standard convention and while Sonarr tries to figure them out its far from perfect, best way to deal with them is to queue them manually, then rename them after they complete and drop them in the drone factory folder.

If Sonarr can’t figure out what the special is by parsing it its not going to be able to post-process it when it completes, making the auto grab pointless. Sonarr does find most specials when searching, but it can’t figure out what the episode is so it doesn’t grab it (it won’t work via manual search either).

Thank you. I appreciate the detailed responses.

You were right about midnight, I guess I’ll just have to see how well it works out once shows start back up.
