I have a rather large library (~14000 episodes) comprising ~4.5 tb of drive space at the moment. Aside from using XBMC to watch stuff on my TV, I also use a variety of other programs to transcode/stream to my various mobile devices, all of which share a common video library. Due to the general slow nature of mobile, I’ve split my Shows library up into 4 parts (A-F, G-M, N-S, T-Z), to improve browsing and performance on said mobile devices.
Unfortunately, these sub-directories don’t seem compatible with NzbDrone at the moment. When I try to add the root folder, it simply returns the 4 sub-directory folders and doesn’t seem to scan any deeper. Any suggestions on how to get this to work with NzbDrone? (other than the obvious flattening of my directory structure)

You will need to add the the 4 sub folders as separate root folders, that will save you from re-organizing your library and allow NzbDrone to function correctly. When NzbDrone does the sorting from your “Download Client TV Directory” it will move it to the proper folder.
Stuck I’m afraid. The biggest problem with automatically importing it would be, NzbDrone is just guessing which show it is and since the data from TheTVDB is pretty bad, its sometimes way off.
We’re changing how things are done in the next version, but it still won’t be automatic, its possibly something we could look at down the road, when it doesn’t matter to you anymore.
It’s possible it may still be relevant to me in the future. This collection has been accumulated over the past 9 or so years, and as such, a lot of the show folders are named with acronyms (BSG, CSI, drwho, etc) and if I recall when I setup sickbeard several years ago it took me several days to get things all sorted. A process I’m loathe to repeat whenever I switch programs going forward.
As such, I really need to go through and standardize all the Folder Names, using something like EmberMM or Media Companion. (Any other suggestions?) I’ve attempted this before, but this was a couple years ago, and both applications would crash when trying to do more than a couple shows at a time. I eventually gave up, as copying stuff across the network to/from a USB attached drobo array was painfully slow and extremely inefficient.
Due to the fact that quite a lot of my library would be rather difficult to obtain again, I need to work on a duplicate of the library to prevent any chance of loss. Unfortunately, I don’t have another 5 or so TB worth of drives just laying about to use for this. Currently I have 2 arrays for my media, ~5.5tb drobo array for my shows, and a ~3tb nexentastor array for my movies/sports/etc, both of which are at ~80-85% capacity.
In short, I’m going to have to build a new, larger array (12-20tb) and migrate all my data to it in the next 3-6 months before I run out of space. It doesn’t make sense to change everything now, when I’ll just have to change it again in the near future. Unfortunate, as I was really looking forward to using this application in a more immediate sense.
Thanks again for all your help, and I look forward to seeing this project develop!
Remember it only took SB days because it was extremely slow (my understanding is its better now, but still not great). You could just add shows that are currently airing to get a sample of it, but I definitely see the pain in adding so many shows, especially multiple times.
It wasn’t the speed at which Sickbeard imported that was the problem, it was the fact that I had to manually verify the information for each show during the process. In short, I was the weakest link :0
Fair enough, when I first setup NzbDrone I had over 100 series and it didn’t take very long to add them all, but most of them were matched properly without intervention.
Unfortunately at this time there isn’t going to be an easy way to get over this hurdle.
