Prevent Sonarr from redownloading episodes

Hello everyone,

I have an issue I’ve been struggling with for some time. I googled around quite a bit but none of the suggestions in threads for similar issues seem to work for me.

The issue is that Sonarr ends up redownloading episodes that have already been downloading in the past. I would like it to download a new episode according to the quality criteria I set, and once this episode has been downloaded once, never to be downloaded again, period.

My setup is such that episodes are downloaded on a Debian server (where Sonarr and Rutorrent are installed), then once the download is complete, it is synced to a BSD server where I store them, then deleted from the Debian server within the hour after it was downloaded. So from Sonarr’s perspective, all episodes downloaded are then deleted within the hour.

I have tried to set up my settings properly.

My assumption was that with the “Ignore deleted episodes” setting toggled on, episodes deleted would be unmonitored and appear as such, but it doesn’t seem to work that way, not sure if that’s intended or a bug, they remain monitored even after deletion:

I actually figured it out. The issue was that “Ignore Deleted Episode” was not triggering the un-monitoring of episodes.

After investigating, the root cause is that my download client was set up to download files in a different folder than what is specified as the Sonarr “path” folder for each series. So Sonarr triggering the download of an episode is not what registers as an episode being downloaded event, only the scan of said episode file in the specified “path” folder registers as the episode having been downloaded. So from Sonarr’s perspective, those episodes never were downloaded in the first place because although it had sent the download job to the download client, the scan job was not seeing them in the “path” folder specified in the settings, and that’s what matters for the “ignore deleted episode” option.

So the bottom line is that I simply need to make sure the “path” specified in series settings is indeed where those episodes are being downloaded so Sonarr can register them as being downloaded and then properly unmonitor then once deleted.
