Hi guys. Have been using Sickbeard/Sickrage for about a year now, but it’s been acting up lately so I’m thinking of trying Sonarr. Looking for feedback from people that have done this. Is the switch easy? Will I have to manually re-add all the shows I have on Sickrage? Does it handle torrents nowadays?
I recently switched, and I like it much better then the SickBeard version I was on which was severely outdated.
Good torrent support and much better utilization of API’s instead of custom scripts are a serious plus for me.
Also, I have a Zotac PI320 as HTPC which has a slow CPU. The webpage of SickBeard takes forever to load, the webpage of Sonarr is much CPU friendlier.
My playback software is Plex. What I did to get a good feel for it:
Leave SickBeard config as is
Parallel install Sonarr
Have Sonarr write to different directories
Add these new directories to the Plex sections
Add series in Sonarr using “Future only”, which restrict it from trying to grab all “missing” episodes, as the Sonarr dirs are empty
For X period download both through SickBeard and Sonarr (I’m lucky enough to have a 100Mbit fibre at home, so data usage wasn’t a problem).
After feeling confident Sonarr was handling the downloads for series X properly, set it to paused in SickBeard.
Added all new series to Sonarr.
Haven’t gotten around to making the full switch to Sonarr yet and merging all the dirs, but there are no real issues holding me back.
Thanks for the quick response and tips! Setting up Sonarr now, but I can’t find the option to set the download path before i sorts and renames? Using torrents. Also, I found an option to import existing tv shows into Sonarr, but will Sonarr try to sort stuff in the existing folders if I add them?
Sonarr automatically gets the path from your download client, by tracking downloads within a category (set when you add the torrent client to Sonarr). If Sonarr and your torrent client are on different systems you can use Remote Path Mapping in Sonarr to remap the path that your torrent client reports to one that Sonarr can use (the remote path will need to be mounted locally outside of Sonarr).
