I guess this has to do with monitoring. I’ll use Person of Interest as an example. The season is over, I’ve watched and deleted the episodes. Someone group releases 1-All of the episodes online of said season. Sonarr picks this up and redownloads. I know I can go to each series and click “Unmonitor” but I have a lot of shows, and one by one that would take a while. If I add a new series I get multiple options for monitoring(All, Future, Existing, Missing, First Season, Latest Season, None) That don’t seem to be anywhere else. If I edit series I get one option Monitor: Yes/No. Mass editing only lets me choose between the two. Help! Sidenote, I could also use a “Remove shows that were cancelled too early” option, but that’s another topic.

please note that that feature will only work on future deletions, it won’t retroactively unmonitor stuff that was already detected as deleted.
Figured that, my autocleaner script doesn’t run for another day so no worries. Is there a reason this defaults to off? I’m not seeing any negative angles from it
Not everyone deletes files after watching, in a real world scenario you could lose a number of files (hard drive failure) and Sonarr would happily start marking episodes as unmonitored the next time the series folder was rescanned. Having it off by default is the safer option from the perspective of tracking what is wanted.
Ehhhh. Say you have it off, hard drive failure isn’t going to tell Sonarr to redownload those episodes, it is only redownloading them in the situation they are new uploads to usenet. So would a user with a hard drive failure have it set and wait for someone to upload new versions to usenet to replace them, or would they do a manual search for lost shows that they wanted replaced?
They’d need to search for them, but the difference is they are treated as missing and subsequently show up on Wanted: Missing. While you can filter Wanted: Missing to show unmonitored episodes you’d need to pick through things and determine if they are things you explicitly unmonitored or they were unmonitored because the files disappeared.
