Nzbdrone on network

Can someone tell me were there is a document explaining how to view nzbdrone from another pc on my network or a tablet on the internet?
Thank you.

I will add this to my Beginner guide i created but for now it is fairly simple

Firstly you need a static IP on the computer that you have nzbdrone installed on otherwise you will have to keep checking the IP address everytime the machine is rebooted as the IP Address will change

once that is done take note of the IP address of the machine by going to command prompt on that machine and typing ipconfig (you can also add /all to the end of that if you wish however i find it not necessary as you only need the IP address not more in depth details)

then simply add port 8989 to your firewall and allow it (assuming you have not changed this which is the default NzbDrone port)

once this is done go to your other machine you want to access it from and open your browser then navigate to

http://192.168.1.1:8989 (change this ip for the one of the machine but leave the port the same this should then allow you to connect to the nzbdrone gui over your network

hope this helps and let us know if everything went alright it should though as these are the steps i took for mine

@naselloj On Windows you should be able to restart as Admin and it will open up the port in the firewall as well as register the URL with Windows. https://github.com/NzbDrone/NzbDrone/wiki/Installation#windows

On other systems it should be handled automatically, though you will need to open the firewall manually if enabled.

I have just added a section to my guide with more in depth on the steps and also some screenshots of course this is an alternative option to the one @markus101 just mentioned either one should work just try the one mentioned above first as it sounds quicker and easier if no luck then check out my guide under the section “Networking With NzbDrone”

thank you guys, will have to wait a couple of days to try it out. Gone for the weekend.

Just could not wait. I used the Beginners-Guide and it worked the first time. Great job I can get to NzbDrone on my Android table by WiFi, but I had to undo the static IP and go back to Obtain an IP address automatically so that my browser would work. Browser would not connect to Internet until I returned to the old settings. Any ideas how to get this to work (Tablet and Browser) together?

ok so are you saying it works on your android tablet but not on your computer with static ip?

have you tried using the current dynamic IP address and seeing if you can connect to begin with that way we know the firewall permissions for the port are good

did you make sure you added the gateway of your router in the DNS server section for example the gateway for my billion 7800n modem/router is 192.168.1.254

so here is one of my machines

this screenshot shows you how i have mine setup as well as my firefox browser (i usually use chrome but not installed on this particular machine) on the nzbdrone page also note that the address ends in .21 which is my server whereas this computer has .24 as a static IP

also make sure you have not set this computer as a static in your router settings as these are usually done by assigning a ip to the MAC address so make sure this particular machine is not already a static ip because if it is set in the router you then leave it to auto detect (via DHCP) your ip automatically but if set in modem even with automatically given one it will still remain static as you have said to your router no matter what give this address to this device

if you give me your router brand and model number i can try and find the correct gateway for you to use

also i doubt this is the cause but try either clearing out your browser cache and cookies or simply try another browser one you don’t use often for me that is internet explorer and see if that works i would suggest trying other browser first because clearing cache and cookes will require you to log into your regular sites next time you visit

another thing to note is you really only need a static ip address set to the machine that you have nzbdrone installed on which i assume is another computer on the network to the one you want to connect with

if it is the same machine you instead use http://localhost:8989 using localhost in place of the IP

Update to my answer

I might have realised what went wrong and i think it may have been my fault if you did what i think

did you use the google dns addresses i gave you instead of the gateway of your router or modem

i just went through the guide again and re-created the steps and those google addresses don’t work i remember a while ago a mate of mine told me about them and show them to me working so i assumed they would still work apparently not

instead just use the ones from your router/modem i will change this in the guide but for now do this

set back to automatically obtain ip address

then open command prompt and type ipconfig and you should get the following if not try ipconfig /all

here is the info you need as seen in this screenshot

you will need to take note of the default gateway address and use that in place of the google dns ones you should be fine just setting Default Gateway and Preferred DNS Server as the same address

sorry about that my bad

Thanks that took care of it I was missing the Preferred DNS Server
it works just fine.
Again thanks.

@protocol77 you really don’t need to set a static IP on your PC in 99% of cases, unless the computer is powered off for a long period it will retain the same IP and even when it is, its still likely to get the same IP back.

I think a static IP adds complexity that a normal user doesn’t need and really doesn’t belong in a noob friendly guide.

If you want to add a static IP/port forwarding guide, then maybe it makes sense, but in the main guide it doesn’t. We don’t need people having issues down the road when their router gives out the same IP and its because of the drone guide, it hurts drone.

ok perhaps instead of removing it i will indicate that it is Optional as this may be something someone MAY want or need at some point

Update: Ok i have kept it in there but make sure if was noted that it is optional

“PLEASE NOTE SETTING A STATIC IP IS NOT REQUIRED THIS IS OPTIONAL YOU CAN SKIP THIS IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN SETTING UP A STATIC IP”

Whats a static IP? I think that will be a legitimate question, I think its better to outline what it is, why you might need it and then dive into it, right now I see most people doing it blindly because they think it might help, when in my experience (years as a network admin) its unlikely for a home setup.

if you look at the end below that i included the following

“Setting A Static IP (Optional)
In this section we will cover some of the networking features and functions of using NzbDrone over a LAN (Local Area Network) group of computers if you are unsure what a static IP is please refer to the Terminology section”

on the document the word "Terminology is a Hyperlink so it takes them there where i give the following description

Static IP - This is an IP Address that you manually set so that you do not receive a new numbered one when you either reboot or reconnect to the network or after the previous expires (usually after a set period of time) you instead have the same IP address everytime you connect to your network this is not required for NzbDrone but is an option you can use if you are interested in setting this up please refer to the
Network With NzbDrone section for details on how to do it.

Makes sense. One other issue, the link from the ToC doesn’t work for Networking with NzbDrone.

Thanks @protocol77

ok will fix that the links for some reason are playing up i will re-link it

Update: Ok should be working now i remapped the link for Networking With NzbDrone in the TOC and the link i placed in Terminology for those who have read what Static IP is and want to try it i made a link to take them there but that was not working until now

Is there a mobile skin for smartphone intranet access? The full site is not as effective on iPhone.

not as far as i am aware perhaps someone who has experience making apps or something could do one up?

I’d love a mobile interface too

There’s a card for it here: https://trello.com/c/ZNeEFEqk/430-mobile-interface
