Newbie needs to know

I’m new to your program and new to many of the concepts. Is there a user’s guide available anywhere? Many of the terms within the program are new to me. I would love to read about setup, what it’s supposed to do and how to make it do that before I bother any of you with more questions.

Thanks

Bob

The wiki is probably a reasonable starting place:

Its not in the best of shape, but should be pretty relevant, no need to read any of the API doc pages though.

Maybe one of these will help?

Google Doc Guide

Thank you both for the prompt replies. Just on the off chance do you know how NewsLeecher can fit into the Sonarr scheme?

Via blackhole only, which is not robust as SAB or nzbget.

If you want to use NewsLeecher, you’ll need to use the Usenet Blackhole as your download client. I’d suggest using one of the clients that are setup to automatically work with Sonarr, I.E. NZBGet, Sabnzbd, or Pneumatic.

Personally I’ve switched recently from Sabnzbd to NZBGet because it has more options for configuration, which I wanted. I think Sabnzbd is a bit easier to configure though, and still works great if your hardware is limited in processing power.

A little confused, no surprise there I’m old 76, My usenet comes from Newsleecher news.newsleecher.com Can I use NZBget under this circumstance?

I should have asked, “how do I find and setup blackhole?”

You should be able to use NZBGet with any usenet provider.

For newsleecher though:

Under Autoimport *.nzb

Set a directory in newsleecher, and then set the same directory for the blackhole in Sonarr under Setttings/Download Client/Usenet Blackhole.

Thank you I’ll work on that in just a bit.

Good morning, I’m pretty well setup. I have a friend who was kind enough to remotely put all of this together. I dl a tv show last night via sonarr. It did all it was supposed to do except in created a new folder called season 1 and put the file there. Plex does not see the file unless I move that. Is there a configuration setting in Sonarr that controls that?

Thanks

I used Plex up until a couple months ago, and it handles season folders automatically:

What exactly does your full folder configuration look like?

Within Sonarr?

N:\Converted Videos\Blu-ray Movies\Tv\Proof Is this what you mean? Inside Proof is a new folder called Season 1 but all the original episodes are just in \Proof.

Did Sonarr put the episodes in \Proof?

In Settings\Media Management There is an season folder format setting that should allow you to make sure they are placed in season folders when they download.

Plex will expect to find the episodes in correct season folders.

No Sonarr put it in Proof\season 1 that it created. Should I move the previous episodes into the Season 1 folder and then change my mapping in Plex or can I have Sonarr put it into \Proof?

Standard Episode Format

Daily Episode Format {Series Title} - S{season:00}E{episode:00} - {Episode Title} {Quality Full}

Anime Episode Format {Series Title} - {Air-Date} - {Episode Title} {Quality Full}

Series Folder Format {Series Title} - S{season:00}E{episode:00} - {Episode Title} {Quality Full}

Season Folder Format {Series Title}

Is this what you mean?

I don’t believe Sonarr will allow you to exclude using seasons folders.

As for the format you have for Series Folder, it should just be {Series Title}
Season Folder Format should be: Season {season} or Season {season:00}

I can make those changes.

I think I’m hearing you say that for my active series I need to put all current series content into the folder created by Sonarr. ? Major Crimes is in it’s 4th season. So I put all of season four into the folder created by Sonarr and change my Plex mapping but won’t that exclude the first three seasons from Plex? If I create two listing in plex for season 1-3 and the one for 4 won’t I have two listings in Plex?

Correct, all episodes from each season should be in a matching “Season X’” or “Season 0X” folder.

I set up Plex long enough ago, that I don’t remember anything about mappings. I do know that I had all my shows setup already as shown at: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows.

All I had to do after that was point Plex to my \TV Shows directory that contained all the shows, and it picked them up properly. If you’ve made changes to how Plex ‘maps’ folders, I would assume you simply need to change those back to the default in Plex to have it work properly in Sonarr and Plex.
