So i was just looking at my Sonarr, and I see in the notifications that it’s searching for Mythbusters episodes… “Searching 7 indexers for [MythBusters : S2006E01]” etc (taken from my logs).
It seems that the seasons on tvdb have all changed from S01-S16 into a year format, not such a big deal except that sonarr had then started monitoring all the episodes (presumably because it saw these as brand new seasons?)…
I’m not entirely sure why it was searching for every episode after that, is this intended behavior? If so, perhaps it could/should be constrained somehow by the air date?
(I got lucky by catching it quite early on and aborting the process by restarting sonarr.)
So they have decided to switch the seasons to use Year numbers instead to be in line with the listing on the Discovery website. Sonarr dumped my metadata for all my episodes because it is looking for s2013eXX or similar. I think they intend to keep them listed like this so not sure how this will be handled.
To be clear: I’m not concerned with how theTVDB decides to number the seasons, or that they might choose to change them. That sort of thing is why TheXEM exists, and while such things may be a pain at times that side of the issue is only really a minor concern.
However, the side effects within Sonarr don’t feel like they should be the intended behaviour here. It literally started searching for hundreds of episodes (there are apparently 267 episodes total, and in this, hopefully rare, case I can’t imagine anyone wanting that behaviour). Now, I can see that if a new season is added to a show, it makes sense to search for those newly added episodes. So the behaviour seems desirable on the surface, however…
Just to make things more confusing: it looks like Sonarr is sometimes mixing the two. I had seasons 2003 to 2015 and 9 to 16. Interestingly enough on the theTVDB the non-year series don’t have any episodes any more, but Sonarr still lists them.
My workaround was to delete and re-add the series, which cleaned out all the non-year data. Now to rename all the files on disk…
Hi Guys,
I have the same problem here, noticed all my Mythbusters episodes were re downloading and I stopped it. Did some googling which I can see why. Ultimately I don’t care weather the seasons are listed by season or year, I just dont want to have to download over 100GB of data again. How can I automatically remap my files without doing it one by one!
this is why I really really hate thetvdb. They make changes like this with no regard to how it screws up people.
Is there anyway to override this? I have every episode of myth busters and I have them arranged by season as I have been doing for the last 12+ years.
I have zero interest in having everything ****ed up by some capricious decision I have no control over, ESPECIALLY since it is going to take major effort to try to clean this up.
Oh, and of course, this will mean that shows will not be downloaded since no one else is going to adopt their change (it’ll be just like American Dad! where tvdb decided on an entirely unique season sequence that match no groups numbering conventions).
You don’t have too, Sonarr utilizes it by default. But it is a manual database, so if tvdb and the scene utilize a different numbering they have to alter it first. You can request changes on their irc channel (maybe on their website too).
Maybe not but there is not much else to be done here. There is no way Sonarr can see that what used to be S15E08 is now S2015E08. No mapping for that exists anywhere and even XEM cannot map TVDB in the present to TVDB in the past. Issues like these for non-anime will always require manual effort. Thank our friends at the TVDB.
Many of the early seasons are unmappable. Often there is no scene release at all, and when they do exist, they don’t cover for the entire season. Non-scene releases often use different numbering or different orders. This is why I intentionally only mapped the last 4-5 years or so on TheXEM.
OK, I am not understanding how I would use thexem.de then? Do I have to remove the myth busters shows and then use manual import and then… [magic happens here]?
There is no magic. Nothing can be done about the shows that you have already downloaded. You can manually fix it, or in the case of the later seasons if you rename the files back to how the names were when you downloaded them, you can reimport them using the Drone Factory. TheXEM will not fix any renames that happen due to TVDB being TVDB. The only thing TheXEM is good for here is for new downloads.
OK, I have all of the Mythbusters shows downloaded and named in the form “Mythbusters - SxxEnn - Title” and I do NOT want to rename them. I do NOT want to have anything to do with the stupidity of how TheTVDB renamed them.
Right now, Sonarr shows that I have =0= episodes of Mythbusters. I have turned off monitoring for all seasons.
Now, when new shows show up, they will be marked as s17e01 I am sure because the various group are not going to switch to the asinine naming scheme that thetvdb is using. So, since i would like future shows to download and since i do not want to rename my current files, what can I do so that Sonarr sees the files I have and searches for future episodes based on a regex something like
"myth ?busters\.*S\n\nE\n\n.*"
It would be great if we could create a show.xml file that overrides all the things that are normally gathered from TheTVDB, but I don’t foresee that happening.
When future episodes are released TheXEM will have the mapping (when the wonderful folks over there add the mappings for them, at least) to go from that release name to the current TVDB name.
Your “show.xml that overrides” idea is exactly what TheXEM does. Thus, you won’t have to do anything for future episodes if the show is monitored. [But if you want Sonarr to see all of your old episodes, you’ll have to rename them. You don’t get it both ways, because…]
What @NMe is talking about is that the episodes you currently have (mostly) aren’t the Scene Release name anymore. They were downloaded as the Scene Release name and then mapped to the old TVDB name, and there’s no automagical way to go from “old TVDB” name to … well, anything.
TheXEM is the [magic happens] tool which maps from Scene Release -> Current TVDB.
I still feel all this renaming files is a distraction from a real issue: Apparently, sonarr’s current behaviour is to search for episodes in a newly added season on a monitored show. This makes sense for future seasons. To me, it doesn’t make sense for episodes which aired in the past.
I realize this kind of change on theTVDB is hopefully rare, but I also think that people filling in old seasons which you would actually want to search for is also rare situation.
I think searching for future, and perhaps last week/month episodes in “new” seasons would be sufficient, and would have avoided the hundreds of searches this mythbusters change kicked off. Perhaps notifying the user if there are more “new” episodes with older air dates that so they can decide for themselves if searching is appropriate.
