I have a computer with a relatively small drive connected to my projector where I keep the movies and the recent TV shows (basically the current series/season). I sync those files to the Drobo that holds everything.
So, what I would like to do with Sonarr is add all the shows that are on the Drobo so it keeps track of all the older episodes, but tell it to download new shows to the computer connected to the projector (which I will then sync back to the Drobo).
So, for example in the Falling Skies folder on Projector Computer I have season 5 episodes. On the Drobo I have S1-S4 and most of season 5, but maybe not the most recent episode or two depending on when I last synced. I CAN set it up to sync daily if that will help.
I am also open to any other suggestions on how to manage this. I can’t be the old one.
(I don’t server the projector directly off the Drobo because it hasn’t been fast enough in the past to reliably stream 1080p).
Unless you’re trying to play full Bluray copies off of WIFI networking really shouldn’t be a problem, I have a number of 100 Mbps devices that play 1080p content flawlessly.
I’m not going to go into much detail here because its not something we really support, but these might work for you.
Sonarr only tracks one folder, you could symlink things to make it see files in multiple locations, but that may put extra load on your network when its rescaning folders. You could also have something else sort the files instead of Sonarr (turn off completed download handling), then when they are synced and the disk is rescanned Sonarr will see them, but will treat them as missing until the sync and rescan happen.
Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of not having Sonarr process the downloads, but was afraid I would have it downloading files over and over if I did that.
I don’t know why the Drobo couldn’t manage 1080p playback, but it couldn’t (despite my LAN being 1000bT). I suspect a processor issue because the network is certainly fast enough.
