Manual Import - cosmetic things

Loving the manual import in develop so far… really great feature guys!
Hopefully this feature is not required too often, of course, since that would mean the release names are getting crappier and crappier

A few suggestions though:

  1. I can see browsing for (most likely the same) folder over and over again becoming a little tedious. Allow the user to specify a standard folder, or even multiple locations (multiple download clients), similar to setting up series root folders. Then it’s a 1-click operation to select that folder rather than browse to the same path over and over again.
  2. In the screen where sonarr lists the files it found, make it more obvious that the area under the Series / Season / Episode is clickable in sequence. It was not very clear to me, and I was looking at that screen for some time, not sure what to do. This is compounded by the fact that the entire Series/Season/Episode area looks like it’s clickable (cursor changes), but actually only the relevant part is clickable.
  3. In the series selection screen, set the focus to the input box? People with more than 1 screen’s worth of series are going to be using the filter a lot.
  4. This is kind of nitpicky: “manual import starting” and “manual import completed” toast notifications, or something along those lines. Once you’re ready and click the import button, the screen closes and you get a bit anxious. Did I do it right? Is sonarr doing anything? Let’s check on the series or history page anyway… Oh yes, it’s importing!
  5. Also kind of nitpicky: I understand the reason of having a dropdown for season selection, most manual imports will be specials because of “let’s name specials however the bleep we want”, but if there’s really really only 1 season (no specials), should users have to select this from a 1-item selection box, or can sonarr already select it when the user selects the series? Ehhh, lots of work probably for something that happens once in a blue moon.

Mockup of #2, with series/season/episode selections made at various stages:

You can open up manual import right from Activity: Queue as well, unless its not showing up there it should be much quicker.

As for favourites, I don’t think thats something we want to focus efforts on at the moment.

Not sure exactly how we want to accomplish that, I’m not a fan of the mockup, but I don’t have an obvious solution either.

Should be doable, didn’t have much luck with it last night, but we’ll see what I can do today.

Yeah, agreed.

I’m leaning towards, doing nothing here, but I’ll try to spend a few minutes to see how easy it is.

Ok, this makes more sense now. I was (ab)using it to browse to non-sonarr-downloaded stuff with bad filenames, outside any folder known/used by sonarr.

Agree, the mockup is butt-ugly, but it was the best I could do. I just added it to clarify. Maybe the ugly-buttons-or-something-else could be displayed only when hovering over the correct area’s? I don’t know, I’m not a GUI desgner…

I think the main “issue” is the fact that the cursor hints you can click anywhere in the entire area, while only a part of it is valid to click.

Thanks for looking into the other stuff as well, but don’t spend more than 5 minutes on the last one  I just happened to stumble upon it when I tried the functionality for the first time by coincidence.

You can certainly use it for that (also an intended use), but it might be easier to select a parent folder and then select what you want to import as it will show the relative path so you know what you selected.

To add, I pushed a few changes this morning after I replied:

Cells are only clickable when the previous values have been filled in (so season won’t appear as clickable unless series has been set and episodes won’t appear as clickable unless a season has been selected). I’m not sure this solves the problem completely, but its a step in the right direction. I haven’t thought of a clean way to make it more obvious, every time I close my eyes I see your fugly mock

Series filter input box is focused automatically, that was a bit painful, but it makes sense.
