Making switch from SickBeard to Sonarr (formerly known as NzbDrone), but I have 1 problem

I hope this is the right forum for my request. I tried searching for “wtv” in Trello and the forums, but I didn’t seem to get any results.

What I see in my set up is that the version of NzbDrone (2.0.0.2180) cannot see files with a .WTV file extension.

I actually still use my Windows Media Center PC to record over-the-air broadcasts (in 1080 and 720) and there is no reason to convert those files into a different format because they play flawlessly with my XBMC setup.

And of course I have a need to supplement my scheduled recordings with downloads supplied by NzbDrone/SABnzbd, which I think are working perfectly together. Except for the .WTV files issue…

Can someone please direct me to putting in a feature request for that file extension? Or is there an alternative way I can configure that file extension to be visible to NzbDrone without having to do anything to all my existing files that have that extension?

Thanks!

Added to develop, it will default to HDTV 720p if no quality markers are found in the file.

Could you elaborate on how you are getting the two to work together? I’m a pvr nerd from way back, but not all that advanced with the wmc. As well as how you are integrating and I actually wouldn’t mind knowing how to co exist downloading and recording in the same shows. As well as having your stuff named and organized correctly. Thx

Certainly, I can try to describe how I’ve got it all working together. I do have a lot of moving parts.

So, my Windows Media Center PC simply acts as the primary PVR for free OTA 1080/720 broadcasts, I’ve got a SiliconDust HDHomeRun which is connected directly to the antenna. I guess the biggest reason I still use Media Center is because 1) the EPG is very much up to date and is always very accurate, 2) there is great conflict resolution with multi-tuner support, and 3) the search and keyword features work flawlessly.

The key to getting the recorded television from my Media Center into my primary “Television” network share is a Powershell script I found on the Internet called WTV-Renamer. I’ve made some modifications to it for my own needs, and it essentially checks all my recorded television by Broadcast Date against the theTVDB and then renames and moves them as needed.

Then on the file server/NAS which serves as the primary repository, I’ve got another handy product called COMSKIP which searches through each recorded show and creates a nice EDL file for skipping all the commercials. Now that is a great piece of technology.

The next part is the NzbDrone/SABnzbd combination which I primarily use to grab episodes I’ve missed. Like if I find out about a new show and I missed the first couple of episodes. I also use this for shows that aren’t available OTA via the Media Center, so I’ve scheduled things that you really can’t live without like Comedy Central. I decided on NzbDrone specifically because of its Automatic Failed Download Handling.

And the final pièce de résistance that I use is Kodi (formerly known as XBMC) a great frontend for viewing all the television collected in the NAS.

It is all pretty much automated now. The most I have to do is occasionally do my part to keep theTVDB up to date with certain shows.

Thanks for the explanation Litheroy. I’m using most of the same pieces but not integrated, ie; there is OTA/tuner shows, and there is nzbdrone shows and never the twain shall meet. It would be nice to make some of the broadcast stuff viewable by nzbdrone.

Sounds like that WTV renamer is a real gem, thanks for pointing it out!

You say that you mostly just use nzbdrone to backfill, which makes sense to me. Are you doing anything tricky like keeping a show monitored but putting a delay on it so that if an episode was missed it would be picked up? From the sounds of it you don’t need to but I’m curious.

I remotely run a setup for my parents, who watch more stuff that is primarily broadcast, and I also foresee the day (pretty soon actually) when my ISP starts enforcing overages, and I decide I prefer to trade disk space for less bandwidth used.

One thing that kept me from moving content out of the recorded TV folder into a library folder was that I lost the automatic disk space management - ie; keep until . Any comments on that? I’m guessing you don’t use it so don’t feel the loss.

Thanks for the pointers, much appreciated
