Long term SB/CP user

Hi,

I have been using SB (and CP) user for many years now and today i found out about nzbdrone.
I really like that is is fast (really, really fast) compared to SB but there are two things that i wish it had:
failed download automation and the ability to grab subtitles.

If this was in the works it would be awesome.

Is there any plans to include movie-grabbing also? So that it could be an all in one solution for movies and tv-shows?
Keep up the good work!

They are both on the list.

I’m on my phone so can link exact cards but you can find and track them on trello.nzbdrone.com

Failed Download recovery is definitely on our list of things to do.
Subtitle downloading is there, but lower priority.
We’ve been talking about movie support as well, but there is a lot to do first.

You can see all the feature requests here:

thanks guys! If there’s anything i can help you with just say so:

  • Beta testing
  • Norwegian translatopn
  • Easy graphics work
  • Multiple platfom test (i have an ESXi server at home) and use OSX, Win 7/8/2008/and some unix/linux when i feel like it

You should jump on the develop branch: https://github.com/NzbDrone/NzbDrone/wiki/Release-Branches

Feel free to test out NzbDrone on Osx or Linux, its a WIP, but it’s getting there.

here is the install guide for debian/ubuntu https://github.com/NzbDrone/NzbDrone/wiki/Installation

Whats the point of voting for items on Trello if you guys dont seem to rank them any higher? IE Movie support has the most votes out of anything I can see but you’re saying its “low” well according to the people who use/support you it seems like it would be pretty high on our lists. I think namely because CP has problems running in windows as service in the new v2. Its a known issue. But I see that season list series details which is just a cosmetic issue is high with one vote… I would rather see enhanced functionality so I can limit the need of multiple applications rather than pretty fixes.

@bakes82 not sure what that has to do with this thread… but adding something like movies isn’t trivial. Voting lets users tell us what features they want to see added, but there are things we need to do because they make sense and things we will do because we want to add/change things.

Taking the seasons list on series details further, there are a couple functional issues that this would address, its not purely cosmetic.

Personally I’d rather kill off as many small features/changes as I can instead of tackling one big feature, in addition to that one big feature taking a long time to implement it would add what I foresee as a significant support burden. Support takes up a lot of my time, but without good support NzbDrone would be just like everything else, I’ve always ranked support and bug fixes higher than features and always will.

Can see where markus101 is coming from about fixing/perfecting before adding new features, hugely looking forward to the addition of movies though, as I find Couchpotato frustratingly poor - often fails to find movies that I can easily find on a manual search. Was a revolutionary piece of software in its day, but I get the feeling its best days are behind it.

Same with Sickbeard, which I’m slowly transitioning away from after being hugely impressed with NZBDrone, and such a slick, one stop solution for both TV and movies will be great when it happens!

I am waiting for full NFO and metadata scraping for XBMC before I do the final jump. But Man I cannot wait. I am just keeping hope that the momentum of the project keeps up!

Xbmc native tv scraper will do the job just fine. Why wait for nfo support?

I agree with @saitoh183 the xbmc built in scrapers detect everything i have ND download if you want the actual .nfo files and metadata in the show folders (for a later re-import so you don’t have to download again) you can always just scrape everything in and then perform a Seperate Export this will copy all that downloaded nfo and metadata from your local folders to the source folders this is how i do it and works fine

@Protocol77 - @saitoh183 - you gentlemen are correct and I just rebuilt my system using specifically xbmc’s scrappers and so far everything has been well.

@fryguy503

glad to hear it is going well

This is not really 100% accurate, at least not with Gotham. When you add a new show with NZBdrone XBMC will automatically scan the show and use its built in scrappers for gathering metadata, but when you already have a show in XBMC which is properly tagged and folder with all its metadata, and you use NZBdrone to download new episodes of said show XBMC will not scan the new episodes since it does not include metadata. You choice is either delete all metadata and re-scan the show back into the XBMC library, which in my opinion is not really an option, manually use a metadata tool after new episodes are downloaded which defeats the purpose of an automation tool, or use NZBdrone just for new shows until metadata support is added but then you would have two apps that serve a similar purpose. Honestly while i am greatly appreciative of the hard work that all OSS developers do the primary purpose of this app is downloading shows, for them to be used in XBMC if it cannot create metadata why try and make movie downloading a priority over simpler things like scrapping of metadata. Metadata was removed due to bugs, and was being worked on for re-introduction the last update on the progress was over six months ago, now once again while I am grateful to the devs, why try to run when you cant yet walk.

Thats too bad that XBMC can’t add its own metadata for new episodes, probably intentional by them. Also Gotham is Beta, maybe it will change before release.

What advantage does having drone do it over XBMC?
By your definition adding metadata support to drone would be having two tools that do the same thing, since both XBMC and drone would be able to create metadata.

To be used in XBMC? No its media management to be used however the user pleases, XBMC is one of many options.

The movie development is not being done by the “core” developers, I was contacted by an interested contributor and it was moved to in progress, because it is in progress, it also has more than 2x the votes XBMC metadata does.

Honestly you don’t sound grateful, especially after the snide comment, we’re running along just fine. We’ll get to XBMC metadata when we get to it, we do want to add it, but there is only so much time we have to work on this. Metadata was not included in v2 because it was poorly done in v1, when we do it we want to do it right.

Sorry it was not my intention to come off as ungrateful, I really do appreciate everything that the developers do.
