Just want to make sure I get it

Version 2.0.0.4409
Mono Version 4.6.2 (Stable 4.6.2.7/08fd525 Mon Nov 14 12:30:00 UTC 2016)

I just want to make sure that I have a couple things right. I should also mention that I am not carping on anything, just trying to understand.

The first thing is the wanted/series/monitor thing.
If a series is monitored, and in the season pass thing the season is monitored (icon is black) and no episdes are black then new shows/episodes will be black. If the series is not monitored then new episodes will remain not monitored.

There is also the ‘wanted’ thing. I have a LOT of old shows that are apparently ‘wanted’. This does not seem to mean that they are really ‘wanted’ but that they are missing from the series on disk. I have pushed the toggle button, and then checked to see if monitoring changed, to see what happens and found that nothing happens so the ‘wanted’ list is, basically, a list of stuff missing from the item folders.

Then there are the ongoing permission thing. Is it possible to get a list of what sonarr, sabnzb and couch potato use as an identifier? My thought is that I can then add these identifiers to my group settings for my folders and put a stop to this stuff. I suspect, for instance, that sonarr identifies itself with ‘sonarr’ or ‘Sonarr’ but am not sure. As a matter of fact it would also be useful to know if any of these programs need to be owners and, if so, who and where?

I have tried to find these answers but failed. Sometimes can find nothing and other times I find a lots of information, sometimes new, sometimes old, but always, seemingly, different.

I should also mention that everything seems to be working just fine, at the moment although logs do mention problems. I don’t want to deal with those, however, until I am sure I actually understand stuff.

Thank you …

Not following what you mean, if the series is monitored and the season is monitored, but an episode isn’t monitored, that episode isn’t monitored. (monitored = filled in, unmonitored = outline only).

It means if Sonarr sees a release matching that episode during an RSS sync it will grab it.

Which toggle button? Toggling it from the wanted page won’t immediately remove it, but refreshing the page will remove it (or changing pages).

Sonarr runs under the user that started it (via mono), Sonarr doesn’t set anything explicitly, I assume SAB and CP do the same.

Thanks for the reply…

If the series is monitored (black icon before series name) and no episodes are black I think it means that the series is being monitored and any new seasons will be automatically downloaded. If the current season is monitored (black) then any new episodes will be downloaded.

It means if Sonarr sees a release matching that episode during an RSS sync it will grab it.

This does not happen. I, for instance, clear out all watched seasons. I did this before I installed sonarr. Sonarr found the missing episodes and put them into wanted. Those old shows are, for the most part, easily found but Sonarr, apparently found nothing. So, basically, its a list of missing shows (which is fine with me) that don’t seem to get downloaded.

The toggle button in the ‘wanted’ screen. I pushed it, left the screen, went to the series season pass and check to see if anything had changed. Nothing changed. I went in again, did the same thing, left ‘wanted’ checked again - nothing changed. Did this a couple more times to make sure. I am, again, fine with this, I am just trying to see how the program runs and make sure my assumptions are correct. I can live with just about anything but I need to know (been at this for a LONG time)

Sonarr runs under the user that started it (via mono), Sonarr doesn’t set anything explicitly, I assume SAB and CP do the same.

I am not being clear. When I look at some folders, that are created by sonarr, I find that, in some cases, the owner is blank and the group may be ‘users’ or ‘sonarr’. The question then becomes who owns the folder (I am guessing either sonarr or root), and there is also the group. Both cp and sab can do the same sort of stuff. This creates a problem for me as I have no real idea of how I should set, or put into my group. I obviously have had a problem in this regard due to my own ignorance. I am trying to figure this out (and I keep getting “cannot access” and “cannot find” not because they are not there but because the folder/file setting appear to be wrong.

Thanks again for the reply.

Have your read the ((FAQ))? It explains how Sonarr finds new episodes to download, just because they are wanted doesn’t mean Sonarr is searching for them, if you want something immediately you need to search for it from within Sonarr.

Did you select episodes first? It won’t change anything if no episodes are selected (on that page).

Regarding the permissions make sure the user is in the same group, setting the default group. You’ll also need to make sure that the group used is used when creating new files/folders (how to will probably vary on the OS, google should be of use). Beyond that maybe someone else can chime in.

Thanks for the reply…

I read the faq. it was a bit confusing. Anyway, the fact remains, as far as I can tell files listed in the ‘wanted’ tab do not get downloaded, irregardless of the toggle pressing. This is fine with me but, apparently, you are saying that everything in the ‘wanted’ will, eventually, get downloaded. I would prefer that not to happen. I have gone through the season pass thing and set the monitor for the last season or the season coming up. In the case of when the current season is the last season I have also removed the monitoring so there will be nothing monitored until the next season comes up. I am assuming that the next season will be automatically monitored. I will keep an eye on it to see that happens.

Oh, when I press the toggle I have ALL the episodes checked (there are over 500 of them!) I wish there was a way to just make them go away. This was my fond hope when I found the toggle in ‘wanted’ but the monitor icons just never changed. I will make another run at it today.

The permission/owner thing remains a mystery to me. I assume I am the user and have tried that in the group and still get “cannot find” and “access” issues continue. I am not all that concerned as its also doing the right things insofar as grabbing and moving shows to the right place.

If Sonarr sees them at some point on the RSS feed (they are reposted) then yes, but it’s not going to actively search for them.

Yes it will.

It will only do a page at a time (changing the page clears the previous page from the UI and loads the next page from the server). Season pass is the quickest way to manage monitored states across multiple shows/seasons.

Thank you again for the help…

I went back into trusted and then went through it, 1 page at a time. I think I got them all toggled to no monitor. It worked this time (must have done something wrong before). It wasn’t perfect. I think it just took it time to do the job as, sometimes, the same stuff would appear again, and get toggled again, but its a done deal now!

My assumption is that when I choose to display only monitored, then toggled them, and, when they all finally went away (and appeared in non-monitored) I had done the job.

Now all I have to do is figure out the folder owner/permission thing. I think I can do that by studying the logs.

Thanks again!
