I manually added some episodes to fill in ones that weren’t grabbed via usenet. I screen capped them @ 720p. The file size is a little bigger than the usenet ones and the visual quality on screen is actually better. Yet, in the episode listing, all the ones grabbed automagically are tagged as “HDTV-720p” whereas the ones I added manually are all tagged as “SDTV”
Just curious how it is determining. Is Sonarr actually examining the files or is it based on info the uploader provided?
In both cases, the files are named with the identical scheme, except that the grabbed ones are all mkv and the ones I screen-capped are all mp4.
FYI: windows explorer (at least) shows my mp4 are 1280*720
How does it retain that information post-processing? When I look at the file names on my hdd, none of them have source or resolution info. My guess is that the original file dl’d (ie. pre-renaming) had that info; the determination was made then; the info is then stored in a db. If that’s the case, then I guess if anything happens to the database and it has to be re-created, that everything would then be tagged based on extension.
Of course, mp4 can be used for just as wide of a quality spectrum as mkv. I wonder if there would be any value in using any number of tools to pull the actual resolution from the file itself? Then it wouldn’t have to make any guesses.
Yes, its stored in a DB, if you had to recreate the DB then it would rely on the extension, thats why we recommend it being part of the file name (Media Centers are going to hide that from you anyways, unless you look at the file system its not very intrusive.
Already on Trello… Trello - the best its going to do is differentiate between 480p/720p/1080p, they’d still be classified as SDTV/HDTV depending on the resolution.
I personally don’t see much reason to go beyond that anyway, so that’s certainly fine by me.
I think sometimes that I should start over with Sonarr. I’ve been using it awhile now and I’m starting to see conflicting info. For example, I never changed the renaming settings from default, yet none of my renamed files have quality info in the filenames (I’m assuming by your response that it probably is the default now to include that info?). Also, at one point it was critical to have the Factory set up properly, then at some other point I remember it was advised to not use the factory and now in the wiki I notice it stresses to only disable factory if you really know what you’re doing. So maybe it is time for a fresh start… but then that means none of my files will be flagged correctly unless I now go through and manually tag them all. But I’m sure I can automate that process at least.
As long as Sonarr knows the quality already, rename all the files with the quality in them, then there is nothing to worry about.
The default does include the quality (and I’m pretty sure it has since the beginning of Sonarr). The default currently is: {Series Title} - S{season:00}E{episode:00} - {Episode Title} {Quality Full} it has changed slightly in the last few months, but that was only the token we use for quality.
