How does local copy of sonarr "talk" to seedbox?

I run sonarr locally and use a seedbox to download all my videos and then I use the completed download handling feature of sonarr to transfer over my files from the seedbox to my home pc using webdrive and I got to wondering the stuff below.
How does sonarr talk to my seedbox?
Does it send a .torrent file?
Is the communication encrypted?
Is there copies of what sonarr tells my seedbox to download using rutorrent recorded on some remote server owned by the sonarr guys?
I just got to thinking if some federal agency forced the guys at sonarr if they actually knew anything other than the IP address of who downloaded sonarr itself , basically they would “own” a lot of people in sitting up law suites. So my question is how much does the sonarr guys know about me other than I am using their forums and that I downloaded their software?

Through the download client’s API.

Depends. Over HTTPS, yes, over HTTP no, it entirely depends on how you set it up. For pulling the files down, that depends on web drive (completely outside of Sonarr’s control).

No, absolutely not.

Nothing.

Perfect answers! I just got a little paranoid there for a while and wondered to myself, if one day somebody in suits holding badges showed up at doors and said, “tell us what you know about your users or your going to butt rape prison, and don’t even think about deleting/hiding stuff or your 100% going to butt rape prison.” What exactly could you guys tell the men holding the badges, and from your response it appears that you can’t tell them nothing, because you know nothing about your users other than “yes we make this software, and here is the link to the forums, we have no record of what our users do with the software.”

I just want to clarify a few things that I overlooked in my initial response.

  • In order to provide available updates for your Sonarr installation Sonarr reports to our server which version its running and which platform (Windows, Linux or OS X).

  • By searching for a new series to Add to Sonarr, Sonarr tells our server which term you’re searching for (no different than going straight to TheTVDB or using Google).

  • By adding a series to Sonarr our server will receive requests for updated series information from Sonarr, same as TheTVDB would if the requests went straight to TheTVDB.

Beyond accessing publicly available information about some TV shows and asking if there is an update for the software you’re running we couldn’t tell anyone how you’re using it.
