Handling Crossover/Story Arc

I’ve searched GitHub & Trello and could not find anything similar so apologies in advance if this has already been suggested.

It would be good if a user could have the ability to download another TV Series’ episode/movie that crossover with episodes within an existing show in Sonarr.

For example I like Chicago Fire but on several occasions there are crossover episodes to Chicago P.D.
The most recent example was a triple episode crossover as follows:
Chicago Fire - S03E21 - We Called Her Jellybean (1) - April 28, 2015
Chicago P.D. - Chicago P.D. - S02E20 - The Number Of Rats (2) - April 29, 2015
Law & Order SVU - S16E20 - Daydream Believer (3) - April 29, 2015

I can provide more examples if required.

I’m not interested in having the whole of Law & Order SVU sitting in Sonarr just for the purpose of having the one crossover episode but that’s what I’m forced to do at the moment, same with Chicago P.D.
A potential resolution would be if there was an option for a user to manually identify/label the episode specifically as a crossover which would then allow the user to manually search for the linked episodes to create an episode group/tree within the series?

There are other TV series that have crossovers such as Doctor Who & Torchwood, some people like to combine the series to watch them in the correct viewing order.

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D had the crossover to the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie between S02E19 and E20 - which I didn’t know until I started watching which gave away spoilers.

An alternative to the above idea would be adding in something akin to a hyperlink to the correct episode/movie involved in the crossover so that something like XBMC detects the crossover, as opposed to the grouping/tree idea mentioned above.

Just an idea to streamline the viewing process.

Thanks very much for all your work!

This isn’t possible as there is no way that Sonarr would know that those episodes are crossover episodes and that they need to be found outside of the current series. Even if the were listed as specials for the series Sonarr wouldn’t be able to find them because the names/numbering wouldn’t match.

Yes, I understand that and I understand that it would be too much work and very difficult to get Sonarr to do this automatically.

Maybe I didn’t explain correctly, but would it not be possible for it to have a feature designed for the user to manually identify/manage/download/link them themselves? A completely manual process?

I could creat a mockup for the idea if that would convey the approach better?

It could be done, but its not something we’re going to consider doing, its a lot of work for a few episodes a year, better off doing it manually by grabbing it right from the indexer.

Sorry pardon my noobness… when you say going to the indexer and grabbing it there do you mean download and store it somrwhere outside of Sonarr’s Series library completely?

You can store it where ever you want, it could be along side the episode, named how ever you want, but Sonarr isn’t going to handle any aspect of finding and renaming it.

Once thing to be aware of is if Sonarr sees two files with the same season and episode number it will only monitor one of them, in the case of
