Hi. I have been a user of Sickbeard and Sabnzbd for many years and have just started looking at NZBDrone and it looks great. One of the major issues I have had with Sickbeard is that as soon as a download fails then instead of Sickbeard trying to find an alternative it does nothing. I then have to look about using either my newshosting client or torrent downloader to find the file. Is there a way NZBdrone can look for an alternative if a download fails automatically.

this is one of the main areas we are addressing in vNext. there will be a much improved handling of failed downloads both automatically and manually by the user.

May I ask if version 2.0.0.17 includes this functionality? It does not seem to retry alternative nzbs when a download fails. Are certain Drone or SAB settings required I’m not aware of, or is it simply not implemented yet? How is it supposed to work?
in version 2.0 you can manually search for a different release of an episode that has failed and queue it to download. we don’t automatically attempt to download another release yet, but it’s coming.

you can also install the NzbDrone Xtender extension for Chrome:
It will add search provider links in the Episode Search Tab’s Modal that pops up when you click an episode name of the Series page. Helpful for when the built in providers don’t return the results you are looking for.
Just installed Nzbdrone for the same reason, Sickbeard wouldn’t try another release for failed downloads… In any case very impressed, donation coming regardless however I am wondering since it’s not in 2.0.0.705 if it’s is formally in a coming release and what the timeframe might be? Thanks

I think we’re just about ready to release this feature to the pre-release testers, but I’m hoping to get some people to give it a test before hand. I’ve tested it in very limited circumstances and I’m quite confident that it will work, but its a pretty major change. This functionality is only available when using SABnzbd.
The checklist on the Trello card shows what was added, some of the features are opt out, meaning they are enabled by default, but can be turned off (via advanced settings on Media Management), if there was a reason to do so (never know).
