File's are not always being imported following download

Sonarr version (exact version): 2.0.0.4472
Mono version (if Sonarr is not running on Windows):4.2.3 (Stable 4.2.3.4/832de4b Wed Mar 16 13:19:08 UTC 2016)
OS: Linux Mint 18.1

Description of issue: File’s are not always being imported following download.

For example, I’ve just added the series “The Expanse” and used the “Search for monitored episodes” button which found the files and sent them to rtorrent.

Everything downloaded but sonarr has not recognised that the downloads are complete. I have it set up to import the files (move them to another folder) and then notify Plex media server.

This process has worked with about 25% of what I have tried so far but for the most part, it gets as far as sending file to rtorrent and then that it is.

The debug-log is not revealing the cause as because as it is not actually doing anything, it’s not getting logged.

I should point out that this is my first experience of sonarr so it is entirely possible that i have done something wrong but i’m not sure what that would be.

edited to add: I should add that If i move the files manually and update sonarr then it’s ok but the main reason I want to use sonarr it to remove all the manual intervention.

Are they in the correct category (label) in rTorrent?
Does Sonarr show them in Activity: Queue?

Hi Markus, They do show in the History as being grabbed and sent to the client for download but i did not see them in the queue at any point.

I checked and no, these ones do not have a label in rtorrent. The ones that succeed do have the sonar-tv label.

edited to add: I just added another series, Black Mirror and those are not getting a label assigned in rtorrent either. I’m not sure how to fix this?

edited again to add: I manually added the label in rutorrent “tv-sonarr” on a test download. This is now being picked up in the Activity queue.

Check the ((debug logs)) when they are being added, it sounds like something is failing there, there are a few possible reasons, but we have a fix for the scenario where rtorrent is slow to pickup the torrent/magnet ready for the next release.

It’s not serious at all, just has to do with losing a connection to the browser.

I see two things wrong in the first log dump.

the double // in the path i hope to have fixed by modifying the path in the rtorrent download client URL path section.

This is a similar case to one we fixed, but this one is due to rTorrent taking more than 5 seconds to resolve the magnet and Sonarr is unable to set the category, directory and start the torrent.

If you’re often using magnet’s (typical with public sites) you may have better luck with another client.

is there a way to force sonarr to use .torrents instead of magnets? It is doing this on it’s own, If I was downloading manually I would be using the .torrents on rarbg but sonarr is choosing the use magnets.

Is this likely to affect the not adding a label issue (which seems to be the cause of my problems) ?

I fixed the path but as my cert is self signed (on a local server on my lan) then it’s not going to work without a manual exception.

I’m just trying it with no sll on port 80 to see if that makes a difference.

No, RARBG only exposes the magnets to Sonarr. I believe the torrent links are generated from the magnet on the fly (if not already cached).

No, it’s there to show it failed, but it’s ignored. If Sonarr was strictly checking the certificate it wouldn’t be able to communicate with rTorrent at all.

So can i conclude that sonarr is not fully compatible with rtorrent at the moment and maybe I should try again when your new version comes out? When are you planning on releasing that?

It worked as advertised for the first 20 or so shows i downloaded then stopped adding the label in rtorrent and I cant see a way to fix this myself.

I’m trying transmission now but the reason i use rtorrent is because I can make rules to stop seeding after a while on certain trackers and / or limit the bandwidth on certain trackers.

I know it sounds selfish but if i leave a torrent seeding on a public tracker all night or all weekend, it uses all of my bandwidth and my private trackers don’t get any.

The changes I spoke of won’t change anything here, this is a different issue. Really the only thing that might work would be to wait longer and hope that it resolves, but there isn’t really a way to know how long to wait and waiting blocks other grabs from occurring.

I have about 150 torrents loaded in rtorrent right now, I wonder if reducing that number would help?

I’d hope not, but only because 150 isn’t very many and shouldn’t cause it to take that long.

To fix what exactly? How long Sonarr waits for rTorrent to grab the magnet? That’s not really a fix, just a bandaid. The proper solution would be for rTorrent to support setting parameters when torrents or magnets, but that seems less likely.

A bandaid would be better than letting it bleed out but ok, I guess i’ll put a sonarr + rtorrent combination in the unsupported category for now.

Last time i looked rtorrent was not being maintained anymore so i’m not hopeful of it being improved on that side.
