Error in 2.0.0.1861 upgrade

I am running nzbdrone on ubuntu server 12 recently updated to 14.

Installing from apt-get works fine and NzbDrone start properly. By default the install directory is read only for the user I start NzbDrone with and the settings menu tells me accordingly.

When I set the folder to writable by the correct user then nzbdrone shuts itself down very abruptly and will not start again. I’m assuming that it’s trying to update and can’t for some reason.

apt-get remove then apt-get install fixes the issue until I make the folder writable again.

After restart the logs in the UI don’t show any errors.

Drone wouldn’t try to update immediately, it actually wouldn’t notice the change to the permissions for a few hours and if it was updating the UI would show a message in the bottom corner.

How do you have drone being started? Upstart? Are you able to start it via the terminal directly?

Enabling trace logging in drone then changing the permissions might show something going on.
