Hey guys, I just switched over from SB and am really loving Sonarr so far. Amazing work.
One thing that I’m either not understanding or having trouble with. How often does Sonarr check for upgraded quality releases? I have mine set to grab HDTV-720 releases first and then let it grab WEB-DL or BluRay releases as it finds them. So far I’ve seen this process work as expected, but other times it hasn’t. When it hasn’t worked, I can hit the manual search button on the episode and it will list upgraded release options for me that I can then manually download fine. But I’m wondering if I’m just not waiting long enough for one of the tasks to run and do this automatically for me or what. I’m not sure what task does this, I tried manually running the Refresh Series and RSS Sync tasks but that didn’t seem to help.
It will only look for upgrades when it checks RSS feeds (every 15 minutes by default), if your system sleeps you will miss upgrades unless it manages to catch it on RSS feeds.
Hmm…this machine runs 24/7 and I did try a manual RSS Sync via the under the Tasks menu but it didn’t grab it. I’ll try again the next time I see it happen.

RSS Sync is only the last 100 items posted on your indexers, if what you’re looking for isn’t in the last 100 it won’t be found, but if its running 24/7 and running RSS every 15 minutes it should have found it.
So, for shows that I’ve imported into Sonarr, is there a way to have it do a “Backlog” search for upgraded quality releases for all the episodes?
I understand that if a newly released item is posted that it would grab it out of the RSS feed check, but I’m noticing that I can go into shows that I currently have 720p of and do a search that Sonarr finds previously posted 1080p options. It downloads and processes these upgrades perfectly if I manually initiate the searches, but I was wondering if there was a more automated way for Sonarr to do this for all of my imported shows.
There isn’t an option to search for all of them at once, but you can use Wanted -> Cutoff Unmet to search for 1 page at a time, this will let you manage the API calls made without hammering you indexers with a giant batch, though its a bit of work.
Ah, excellent, this will work. Although yes, I’ve currently got 226 pages in that list, so that is a bit of work to sort through.
If possible, maybe there could be an option in there (with appropriate warning about watching your API numbers) to manually kick off a backlog check for unmet cutoff episodes for a larger number of items at once? Maybe being able to select a whole season or show at once somehow in that list?
