First off, I saw the this card on Trello but I think that only covers importing DVD rips into the normal air date ordering that TVDB uses. I’ve also seen this thread where it is mentioned that Trakt simply doesn’t have the DVD order available. TVDB does, but I understand why you wouldn’t want to connect to that as well as to Trakt.
Even though I know this ordering is not available to you, I think the problems caused by the lack of this data are annoying enough to warrant thinking about another solution. Let’s take Firefly as an example: it’s simply impossible to watch the episodes in the correct order without looking it up on the internet, because my (and any other) naming scheme renames the episodes in such a way that the order is messed up.
You have made a scene name override service already. Would it be an idea to add another service like that for series that are numbered in a weird way like Firefly so that the episodes can be numbered correctly in Drone? That could even be automated to use the TVDB ID to get the DVD ordering, which you then cache for a few weeks for finished shows or a day for shows that are still airing, but in essence a manual thing would also do for the few series that seem to be affected.
The cost vs benefit on something like this is extremely low, the number of issues with the scene vs tvdb is low, but its even lower for DVD ordering.
It also adds a lot of complexity to a series because you need to check 3 numbering systems and everyone is going to have an opinion whether it showed be stored on disk in DVD or aired order.
I see a small benefit to it, but not enough to implement it at this time.
I used drone to catch Firefly, and the poster posted in DVD order. Yes, the files names are wrong, but I use plex, and the DVD order bundle for plex on that series, so I never see the file names.
